twin front discs over single? revamping front end for street...
I need some advice guys.
Im revamping my front end and am thinking of using parts I already have. bear in mind i dont have wheels yet (one damaged/one sold) and will be riding on sealed roads, and definately need better brakes than standard for racing in the twisty bits... do you think a set of zx6r forks/calipers and front wheel would be ok on the xtr? I like the idea of the zx6r wheels (F&R), as I can pick up a set cheap and already have the calipers & forks. the forks I can have easily extended to fit. maybe run a fork brace though as the forks are only 41mm). even the bearings and triples are the same (just need to lengthen the stem). i was a little concerned that the rear wheel set up may be too wide but I can check that out later. so zx6r wheels / forks / twin disc front? or: still run the zx6r forks but fit a pair of kawasaki balius zr250 wheels. The balius has a single disc front with a 310mm disc (from memory), the xtr is 300mm. the balius has a smaller rear disc @ 230mm as opposed to xt's 240. the chain offset is about the same, give or take 3-5mm... so what do you guys think? |
The kawa forks will be no good on the dirt.

thanks Kev,
I wont be riding on the dirt at all mate, but will be on sealed roads with heaps of people crossing without looking, busses and trucks with no turn sigs or brake lights, trikes doing uturns without looking or indicating, the odd pig or water buffalo, goats and heaps of dogs! so braking is my main issue, secondary would be suspension although handling would be a major concern too as we do alot of riding 2up with a loaded givi box in the mountain twisties... another reason for good brakes. My last XTR used to run out of brakes badly when riding hard loaded up in the mountains. Im just wondering if the 41mm forks would be a hassle even if i fitted a fork brace? too much flexing maybe? my mrs txtd me the balius widths today and it looks good at 4.00R and 3.00F, this would allow for some decent rubber under me anyway. |
