My Tenere Mods.
Hi all,
So with the collectiin of my bike looming I just can't hold it in any more. Ive decided to make a post to discuss and follow my planned mods. Idea is over the next year or so to creat a amature big ralle bike and break into the world of enduro! So planned mods are: Stage 1/2 DNA filters 2 into 1 MTC exhaust DRC anato tail tidy WR400 side panels High front fender (ive found these on racespec.co.uk but not sure what type I need) Remould seat Pivot/bigger pegs AUX HID lighting kit Renthal/protaper bars Barkbuster/similar handguards (it currently has yamaha ones on it) New springs and oil in front forks TKC80s or back to the tourances Fix rectifier (has this been rectified on the 09 models?) And that for now is about it. First jobs on the list are the high fender! Ive found some made by polisport but not sure what model to use, any ideas? What do folks suggest doing first.....exhaust or DNA filters? Any other things that ive over looked with regards to the filters and zorsts? Looking forward to the lakes now and being able to get it mucky (or wet as it usually turns out) Cheers all |
If you go with the DNA filters, you'll need a Kevmod or PC-V.
Personally, the filters make a bigger difference than the Zorst, but the MTC zorst does release lots of low down grunt. Don't knock the Yam OE guards, try them out first, they are way stronger than they look (I know, I've crash tested them, more than once..) I broke mine because I tried to lift the bike by them - stupid thing to do! TKC's, (or if UberT is watching, them mitas things) because you'll have more fun, and getting stuck on a grass field with chite tyres is no fun... especially for the SteveD who has to push you out! |
Am i right in thinking that dna stage 1 on the ten is the airbox top and filter and stage 2 is the side pannel?
I been searching for it on here to read up more but when you type in DNA it syas its too few letters. Ah yea cheers Mr gas i didnt think about the kev mod! How much am I looking at then for kev mod plus S1 and S2 filters? |
Use
"dna" as the search string, with the " " marks.
DNA Stage 1 - Snorkel removal, it's a cover DNA Stage 2 - High Flow air filter DNA Stage 3 - Side cover w/ filter Some have just cut out the snorkel and used the ring that's left, but, the DNA one is much more rigid than the 'adjusted' Yamaha part, and holds the Stage 2 filter much better. But you can just about get away with the Yam park butchered. You'll need to speak to Kev about his mod, and the Captain for a quote for the DNA, and if you want Zorsts, the Captian again. |
Tried the search as suggested gas and it says sorry no matches!
Cheers for the info, ill give cpt fran a message. |
If you're serious about rallying it, then forget about exhausts/filters/shiny baubles and sort the suspension first.

2 into 1 MTC exhaust - got LeoVinces DRC anato tail tidy - not yet WR400 side panels - not High front fender (ive found these on racespec.co.uk but not sure what type I need) - no need (even in mud no problem) Remould seat - got a Kahedo high seat: a flat seat will enable you to move around and shift your weight better Pivot/bigger pegs - got pivotpegs AUX HID lighting kit - got Xenon in low and high beam + double light mod Renthal/protaper bars - got Magura tapered bar Barkbuster/similar handguards (it currently has yamaha ones on it) - got Acerbis Multiplo New springs and oil in front forks - got Hyperpro front + complete Hyperpro rear shock TKC80s or back to the tourances - on TKC80 at the moment but prefer T63 Fix rectifier (has this been rectified on the 09 models?) - never needed it (even though it's a 2008 model)

With all these mod's your Tenere will be a very capable adventure bike! This is mine: Big picture: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-MNHX8N7A.jpg http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-MNHX8N7A.jpg in this picture I'm running an 18" rear wheel with a pair of Michelin Enduro Comptetion tires... during a rally training weekend HJ |

As for the high front fender, i want one not from a practical point of veiw, pure and simply because the only part of the bike i dont like the styling of is the low fender. Still unsure of what make/model to use. Have folks found most fenders will fit with minor cutting? I know a few folks have fitted the wr400 side pannels, how did you find fitting them? Much cutting needed? |
hi, i've been using this type for the last 2 years, works well, even in the desert, no problem with overheating, the angular shape suits the tenere well!

http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...llyprep019.jpg as it's an '08 have you checked has it the '09 modified oil breather? +1 on the t63's. great tyre i'm with uber- less bling! more practical stuff! oh yeah, all the best with your new ride! consider also a chain guide! |

Springs wise im looking at hyperpro replacements to go in the standard forks and something along the lines of an ohlins on the rear! For amature enduro spring wise, what am I realistically looking at? Are the standard springs good enough? As for the modified breather im not sure what your on about. The bike is an 09 model on an 08 plate, not sure how that one works out lol |
You mean, an 08 bike on a 09 plate. They only made the racing gold for 08, itsthe most original colour.

I have oiled foam in mine now with the side back on the air box..When I took my DNAs out to clean them the air box on the engine side of the filters was full of dust... Have lost a bit of power with the oiled foam.... but now theres no grinding paste going though it... Chose yer filters for the terrain yer ride in..DNAs would be great in a XTX...

As for the side panels - I think you mean the (Honda) XR400 ones, rather than a WR? http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/DSC00696.jpg http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/DSCF3334.jpg They are very east to fit - the lower hole lines up with the upper pillion footrest bolt, and the upper hole you need to use a spring clip with a captive nut on the flat plate/brace on the subframe (you'll see where I mean when you offer the panel up)... then just cut a slot/trim around where the rear grab handles sit: http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...n/DSC01137.jpg Have fun! Ill be ordering a few bits tomorrow as its pay day so watch this space lol......... |
My new high front fender arrived on sat just before leaving to go to brighton for the wrekend.
There wws no way I was leaving home without fitting it. I had to drill 2 small holes as the 4 provided were not quite in the right place. Other than that it fits perfectly! Ive used the tow loop underneath the fender to give it a little more support. Anyway here it is........ http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/IMAG0656.jpg It comes very close to the radiator but passes without catching. I did 200 miles on the m1 and m25 with no over heating issues. Allthough I think I will use a dremmel to cut a few vents in the back as I may experience overheating when moving at slow speeds. Ive also removed the peg rubbers ro see how the standard pegs are. And so far they have been ace! Not had any discomfort at all. But the lakes trip with lots of standing up may change my opinion! |
Chris
how's the high front mud guard going? thinking of doing the mod myself but think there maybe loads of mud flinging up on the front of engine so might make a wee short mud guard like on the xtr to stop the mud flinging if its an issue |

I bought a high front guard but haven't had time to fit it n just been thinking of my off road bike after a wee run always has masses of mud on front and don't fancy that on the tenere. |
The one I bought which Bernard has popped a link to somewhere above does come down in front of the radiator.
I don't get any rubbing or over heating. We got nice and muddy up the lakes and didn't really notice any undue/unexpected mud on the rad. I suppose it's personal preference more than anything. Personally the only reason whybI changed mine was because I hated the look of the standard one and felt it ruined the look of the bike. Have u got the fender on get? |
Ive got a high mud guard, and yes it allows the front of the bike to get plastered in mud!
the only reason i have one is (apart from it came with the bike) is that i dont want the sticky mud building up and braking the OEM (low) mud guard...or jammin the front. Has this actually happpened to anyone though? is it an old wifes tale like swans can break your arm - how many people have you ever seen with a broken arm done by a swan! :) |
for me it's mainly a looks thing as I like the motorcross and Dakar bike. part from that I like being different from standard
|
Sorted the XTR mudguard mod - works a treat! :D
Rather than highjack Chris' thread I've started a new one here |
