New XT660Z Tenere Owner in Sweden

Hi,
I bought a Tenere last week, a 2008 with only 1563 miles (2517km). My Tenere is wonderful to drive, i have only been on asphalt roads and been driving only 434miles (700km) so far.

A day ago my Tenere suddenly stopped working... so i had to bring home my bike in a trailer... When I was looking for tips on the internet I found this forum :-)

Thanks to reading threads on this forum about regulator problem i could guide my dealer to make a complete solution and not only replace the regulator.

One of the pins on the connector and regulator has melted together and are burnt.

The only good thing is that Yamaha Sweden has put a 5 year warranty on this model and this error is covered by this extended warranty ... so now waiting for my dealer to bring home a complete new harness (I think you guys calls it Loom in the threads) with the upgraded connector and a new regulator. They ordered the items today....

Will unfortunately probably take a few weeks before I'm out on the road again ...

Valkommen.

Ah, the dreaded Rectifier problem, the Achilles Heal of the Tenere.

Still, at least it's getting fixed for you.

:hello: Hello and welcome aboard.

Shame about the regulator problem rearing its ugly head, I bet you're really frustrated having just got your hands on it! Hope you get it fixed quick.

Hi and welcome. Might I suggest when you get the bike you have a look at the connector itself and make sure that there is dialectric grease in there and that it is snapped together correctly. You will notice that the pins are very small and need to be firmly connected or..................you know the result.
I know from personal experience as I had the first UK model to have this fault!
I how have a small LED 'gizmo' from "Gammatronix" which indicates to me what is happening at the charging end of the bike, might be worth having a peek!

Hope this helps.

Cheers SteveD

Thanks for your input guys!
My mechanic called me today and said that he will have my parts within 2 days So i will leave my bike this week and hopefully it will be ready next week, and yes he has promised to fill up the connector with dialectric grease...

I really like this bike so it's a shame that it's already broken...
This is my fourth bike I buy from this dealer so I have good confidence in him and are sure that the work will be properly done. It's also the same dealer who sold this Tenere as new to the owner before me

Update: Life is Good!
The dealer called me today and they will start the work on my bike this week!
So I will leave my bike to them on Friday, and while they fix my bike I get to borrow another Tenere at no cost at all. So it doesn't matter if it takes the whole next week to repair my bike, I can still be out on a Tenere, It's black but I can probably be comfortable with that :-)

I believe you might find it 10 to 20 Km/h faster than the white one! :icon_mrgreen:

Have fun on the loaner!

Welcome to the forum.

With the loaner bike, now might be a good time to try out the weeTEN's trail prowess!

Hello everybody!

I have also bought Tenere 2008 this year with only 7000km on the recorder. Now, 4000km off the roads..... the regulator has been broken!! Just as I was going on a holiday trip with group of 35 offroaders, driving the most beautiful and dirty offroads here in Sweden!

Im not happy right now.... :(

My Ten is on service, and I just have to wait until Yamaha confirm its warranty case and sending new regulator to my service dealer! :'(

It sounds like this is common problem on the Ten? Is there anything I can do to avoid this problem in the future? Or is the replacement regulator better one!?

If you want, we could change country, job and home for a month or two... I would gladly riding through brazil with my ten! ;)

That last comment has been removed from the admin for obvious reasons.
