I went to MTC to pick up my can. When I fitted it I also thought it was far too loud................so I went back to them and they gave me a 'pepper pot' plate to fit between the link pipe and the silencer. Now it was far too muffled and stifled...............................so I went back to them with the bike and less the 'pepper pot' plate. I illustrated just how loud the can was, some quick revs in a warehouse!.
In the end orf the can is a tube. They took this out and I could see that it is swaged up to fit at the mouth of the silencer and then narrows down to about 25mm. It is about 250mm long and the end is blanked. The last 75mm of the tube is perforated and it is this part that allows the exhaust gasses to escape out of the silencer. They basically chopped 25mm off the end of this pipe and reblanked the end. I tried the can again and still too loud, they chopped another 25mm off and now I was happier. To sum up the pipe allowing gasses out has perforations for only25mm of its original length. I was not too bothered about having this shortened so drastically as it would be easy to enlarge the holes or add more. Hope this makes sense and is of some use. Steve D |
That's good to know!
Actually my bike went through the MOT test. BUT.... He pointed out that my silencer was NOT actually legal, but he was a decent guy and let me through anyway! :) |

I have twin MTC's with no baffles, noisy as hell, but been pulled a couple of times with no issues, and passed its MOT fine

That looks completely different to the two ones I got from MTC a year or so ago. They had mesh grating instead of solid metal for the cylinder, and the one that was supposed to be more quiet had a plate at the top of the cylinder in the pic, instead of being open, but still mesh around the cylinder

So do we think cutting my tube down (the pic) a few cm would make it noisier, quieter or make no difference at all ?
