with the bike sitting like that (with the YAMAHA emblem on the clutch housing sitting straight), I dropped the ninja forks down to that level so i could measure the wheelbase. the st xt660r is 1505, and the xtx is 1490.
with the ninja forks its 1470, so pretty close. Im not sure about the rake/trail/offset yet as its just a thought at the moment. Overseas I have a zx250 balius front end and rims that i will probably fit to it as it has a good front end with a big single disc that may be lighter for this application. I previously had it rigged up to an xt250. bearings are all in order but forks may be a little thin. this is how it looked: http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...SDC14197xx.jpg what do u guys think? I reckon i could even use the rear rim on the xt660r as well! Since the ninja triples slotted in so well with same sized bearings maybe the balius ones will be the same as well. ? |
the rear of the xt was pretty damaged with all the plastics and tail light smashed. im thinking of chopping off the rear frame section and grafting on the ducati one so I can use the seat lock and ducati plastic skirts. The taillight will be a ducati cbr1000rr hybrid... more weird stuff!
the ducati was a stat write off and cant be registered again. I even thought of using the ducati frame and single sided swingarm, but then i would have to use the marchesisni rims but that may be overkill. interesting thought though as they are so light and sexy with that single swingarm! |
Got some mad ideas there...i was toying with the idea of a R6 engine in xtx frame

things have been slow as mums in hospital and Ive been working on 3 other bikes.
tmorrow i pick up a front and rear end off a kawasaki zx636. the forks are a monsterous 46mm... rear rim is 5.5". it will be interesting to see how they match up. Im hoping to use the 636 wheels, forks, calipers and triples on the xtr. forks will probably need to be extended a bit. I dont know how the rear will come up but I get the alloy swingarm with the 636 rear wheel so I'll see if it can be utilised as well... dont know about the rear caliper and mount yet, or disc/sprocket offset. I did sit the ducati bars on it though and I love the position! cant wait to get into it! |
and here she is with the 636 rims and forks.. still some way to go but starting to take shape. fitting a vtr1000 rear caliper to it... love the 6pot front calipers![IMG]

yeah mate, thats me. I'm thinking on giving up on it. Im having a hard time finding a suitable tank. Its no problem modding the triples to fit but the bloody Ducati tank has protrusions in the front that hit the forks affecting the turning circle. I really dont want to give up, but went a little silly and bought another 3 bikes from the auctions. (not to mention another Im looking at tomorrow that im REAL keen on. this will bring the head count to 7. crikey i better get back on my meds-im going thru a manic stage!
one bike i did pick up was a 900 diversion (98 model). Ill get it home over the weekend and look at fitting the tank and wheels off it, but I really do like the ducati look... Im pretty much between asia and australia. I ride bikes in asia (no speed cameras!), and buy and sell and mod them here. quite often Ill take panels & tanks over to have repaired and painted there then bring them back here for projects Im working on here. I also have custom exhaust systems made up over there... |
