Renthal Bars
Can someone give me a quick answer to this question, please? Which Renthal bars give the same riding position to stock and I take it they're compatible with Barkbusters.

Hi Nick, I have the 613 Renthal bars ( aka Dakars), they are slightly longer and higher but are solid, i dont know or think there is a direct like-for-like replacement but im sure if there is that someone will be along soon to tell you.

I had the street fighter bars which where around the same width but sat a little higher.
What rethanls are you looking for/at? |
Don't really know. Looking at going to Japan on it so if I come off I don't want the trip screwed up by broken bars. It's not a looks thing. Just want tough bars and bark busters. Plus a really stout bashplate. That should do it. Oh and a rack. Any suggestions there?

are the standard xt660z bars not alloy ?

(Steel is an alloy of iron). Presume you mean aluminium alloy? What about Magura handlebars (if you don't mind not having a crossbar to mount stuff on) http://offtheroadde.h722493.serverko...php?id=802&L=1 |

The bars on my Tenere are alloy, so they should be able to with stand the force of the bike being dropped.. If however they were steel bars they would bend if the bike were dropped , thus making it difficult to ride . I think Nick want's to make sure that if he drop's his bike on his long trip, that the bars won't be easily damaged. |
Clearly.
I understand what Nick is after. I was merely trying to point out "alloy" is not a singular metal - it is a mix. As I said steel is an alloy of iron (mostly iron and carbon) as such even if the bars were steel they would still be an alloy - but not "ALI" (Aluminium). Didn't mean to be pedantic on this....... |

Impressive science lesson and thanks. Of course you both got it right. I don't want to be stuck in Siberia, with my Russian visa about to run out, with broken bars. And Renthals look so good. They came as stock on my 950ADV I wrote off in 2007 and are pretty cheap. Anyway, thanks, lads...

Eh... wouldn't you just bend steel bars back as a temporary fix? Alloy bars (I wouldn't imagine) like being bent back. I'm no expert on handlebars though. Pretty sure the bars on my R are steel - who said cheap???

Renthsls
Just fitted a set of Renthal Jimmy Buttons.
They are very close to stock with a fraction less sweep They are 807mm wide compared to OEM 775mm so I cut them down by 15mm each side, a bit of a file and sandpaper and they are perfect I also drilled two 5mm holes to mount the controls. The control length (cut down) is spot on but my Barkbusters VPS don't fit nicely so I ditched them. PS: I also filled the Renthals with silicone glue which helps with vibration Cheers Marc |
