Lighting issues

After altering some heated grip wiring under the tank today got the Z out for a ride and on firing her up noted no dipped beam, tried main beam and that was off as well.

Thought I had damaged something when I had the tank off so off it came again but whilst doing that checked the plug under the tank where the handlebar cable join the main loom.

Fire up the engine and wiggle the block connector and low and behold the lights come on, both low and high.

Let go of the connector think it was just loose and they go off - no after some messing about and head scratching it is either a fault in the connector or a broken wire.

Thinks to myself oh crap how do I fix this then had a brain wave - the Z is only 8 months old so called my local dealer who are taking it in next week and it can be there electrical problem

Forgot after 8 years of running out of warranty bikes that the dealer can have the headache.

Good luck with getting it done if you're taking it to Aklams in Harrogate! You may find yourself... :BangHead:

Know Aclams well got my last bike from them and my wifes Virago - Neil and Craig in the workshops have known me for years so hopefully all will be sorted.

Yes, good luck with this.

They will be looking for some excuses just not to fix it under warranty...blah blah blah.

Let us know anyway

Never used to have any bother with them when I lived up that way (when their shop was a lot less flashy and I was running a 350LC). It's just that they slipped in my estimation somewhat when I needed help last April with a fault code and I discovered that they must be the only Yamaha dealer in the country that don't possess the right diagnostic tool for the Tenere (and a lot of other Yamahas too)! In fact the workshop technician spent 15 minutes playing with the set and reset buttons trying to do what you would on a R or X to access the diagnostic mode - I didn't have the heart to tell him it wouldn't work! Their best suggestion was that I did a 40 mile round trip to Colin Appleyard in Leeds (I'd already done 200 miles up from Norfolk by then that day). They did make me a decent cup of tea though!

Anyway, you should be OK because they don't need a diagnostic to fix your lights (well I hope not!) :eusa_think:
