Xt engine

I'm after a engine from my 2004 xt660...mine has a damaged 3rd gear (4 pegs on back of gear are round instead of square) and i think it would be cheaper to put second hand engine....can't find any here in south australia so if anyone knows of a half decent complete engine,pm me or add details to here.

It would be almost impossible to find one in Oz I looked for ages when I wanted to build a race motor.

cheers kev the gear box parts look ok but why strip the engine and sell the parts and not as a complete unit? i wonder if it run at all? ive found a breakers in uk that have xt660 just waiting for reply..your links to the german units look ok but for exchange rate and the postage it would be cheaper to re-build mine

It would be cheaper to strip & rebuild, then to buy a second hand motor from over seas & pay import duty + shipping cost.

I would charge Oz $500 for a loose motor strip down & rebuild + the parts below, so find a local mechanic to do your motor at home.

So if you pull your motor out a Bike shop would charge around $800 to $1000 labour. + the below parts.

It took 5 min to get the below prices, if I look harder I am sure I could find the rest.

Head gasket

Base gasket

No problem to do the motor for you, you got my fee, or you can have a go & ASK any question in the ASK KEV section.

cheers kev will keep you in mind for build...but i might have a go at doing it myself. the only thing thats stopping me is the timing chain and how the piston + conrod comes out? i keeping thinking its like a car job head off, sump off, conron caps then push piston up though block!!! done many car engines but never bike i guess its the same but is smaller scale, think i will read the xt manual PDF file first before i open a carton of beer and get to work...
