Update:
Front tyre now done 6,500 miles. Still legal, but some very worn patches on right hand shoulder. I could probably eak out another 500 + miles, but handling is suffering somewhat. Replacement booked for Friday......

I run the Pilot road 2's on my GSX and I will be getting the 3's when they are due for replacement. One main reason like you have found is that they are good in the wet. And in Melbourne we have LOTS of that...

No worries!!!
New front tyre went on today. Dealer gave me the usual stuff about running it in for 100 miles. After a 15 mile ride home, I can report that grip is amazing (as expected) right from the off. So: 4.5k miles from rear tyre & 6.5k from front. In both cases, I was not even close to legal limit of 1mm of tread (UK/EU law), but tyres had scalloped & had flat spots on both occasions. I think legal limit would be reached after another 1k miles in both cases, but handling/feel would suffer big time, as well as wet grip. Highly recommended!
