Hi waynovetten - I presume you are in Birmingham UK, and not Birmingham Alabama... if so, you could try Central Wheel Components in Coleshill:
www.central-wheel.co.uk - they can basically make up anything with anything (spoked that is) - hubs, rims, spokes in any colour and size - whatever you like... they are not silly expensive either...

you know you can get your excels made tubeless? and i have seen marchesini or a pretty good set of lookalikes on an xt somewhere so they must be available or easily worked... hope you have deep pockets though ;) good luck.

The Excel tubeless thing is a bodge, there are only 3 manafacturers out there that do tubless,BMW there's is patented,Aprillia because the pay BMW,and KTM on their 690SMC from 2010 on.
This was posted a while back, and I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea as they say, keep the XT do a few more mods,ie weight saving mods and live happly ever after with bullet proof Yam motor,or buy either a 690SMC or an R,and the answer?? don't know. |
Weird, i recently bought on x after exactly the same debate with myself, it was between an X ( get modding) an SMC690 (hooligan machine = lose license) and a dorsoduro factory. Personally I went for the X due to the engine and it is such a versatile machine plus when you start actually modding stuff (not just cosmetics) I feel you put your own stamp on it... good luck with your search dude!

Well on paper a 690 with a lot more HP less weight and a motor that needs looking after is a conundrum!!!,the fly in ointment,I've read one post about an XT(on a KTM site) with mods(mine has) isn't far short of a 690 and I have to say mine potters along quite well, thats only one post but food for thought, and as I've found out with another bike,it's just as easy shedding weight for a performance gain as opposed to working on the motor.

im ,ooking at fitting some wheels off anothr japper to the xtr at the moment. I may be going for GSXR USD forks (with extended tops), and wheels, but Im unsure of what will fit the rear swingarm...
either way I will be doing it. its mainly for road use on crappy roads and i will need good brakes, hence the twin discs... also my front end is SMASHED so i have to replace the front anyway... |
