Hand Guards

Hey all,

I've have me Tenere for four or five weeks now, and I have to say I'm loving it more with each ride. I'm only commuting to work each day at the moment, plus the odd trundle to the coast with t'missus on the back.

So far I've fitted a scottoiler, centre stand and a 'fenda extenda'.

For my winter commute, I want to fit some hand guards to keep the wind off. Do any of you folk have a recommendation for which ones to get?

Cheers all!

coolio, thanks. Are they simple enough to fit? I read a review of some guards somewhere (can't remember where, terrible memory!) that required cutting the end of the clutch lever to fit - not sure I fancy doing that ...

The Yamaha ones are well cool. I have not crash tested them yet because I don't. lol

Very easy ,but you will have to open the holes out slightly that fit on the end of the bars ,that way you can use your original bar end weights ,mine fitted

ktm hand guards work fine as well , they are not too expensive , and are very crash proof ...

+1

...............and you don't have to be an engineer to fit them, or do away with bar ends..............and they are considerably cheaper.:box:

Personally I think the barkbusters, which are a specific fitment for the tenere are the best on the market. No modifying , straight fit, very strong and replaceable plastics.

Thanks all! Certainly some options to look at ... !

+2 - cheap and good enough, I dropped the bike a handful of times and they did protect the levers very well... as for deflecting they work fine, I rode with summer gloves last winter. The only negative points are not having a metal insertion / bracket and having to trim the clutch lever a bit.

I didn't trim anything , it got trimmed automatically in a heavy crash :)

now they are fitting very well :)

Had the Barkbusters for 2 years and one crash - still work a treat!

No need to trim the lever, just loosen the bracket off the bars and slide the whole thing a couple of MMs to the right! Has no adverse effect on the lever and doesn't rub the inside of the guard.

I've had a look at these but I'm a wee bit confused when it states 14mm or 18mm? or standard Renthals?

Sorry once again for my thickness but I have came from sports bikes where you order an item that is specifically labelled for a certain model or make.

RiffRaff 20-10-11 12:09

Thanks all. I've ordered some Barkbusters, which should be arriving in the next couple of days. :)

RiffRaff 25-10-11 12:56

Yay, my hand guards have arrived. Fitting was a doddle, even for a ham-fisted mechanical idiot like me.

The only downside I've noticed so far is a slight increase in vibrations through the handlebars, but not so much that I can't live with it on my daily commute. I hope it won't get too annoying on a longer run though.

They've done a pretty good job of deflecting the wind and rain from my poor fingers so far; I've yet to test their crash-worthiness ... that'll have to wait until I can find the time to go and play off road.
