long ride two up....

Hello everyone! Was planning to change to the supertenere from my -09 xt660z. Not because Im in any way not happy with it, but because in spring Im going on a longer trip to Lissabon from my hometown Gothenburg with my grown up daughter as pillion. Now I didnt get the money I was counting on (the supertenere is very Expensiv ) so the change wont happen. Instead Ive changed the damper and forkfeathers to hlins fully adjustable and also put some other stuff on the bike. Been trying to find something about riding two up on the Tenere on the internet without any great success. If anyone has any experience or thoughts about this and would like to share them, Id be happy! Is it for example worth investing in slipons and gain a couple of hp:s ??:YellowCrazy_J8GDC6:

Hi

Leigh and I have used the Tenere for 2 up touring. The bike is still on stock rear shock at the moment and seems to work well, although I may just up grade the rear spring for our next trip due to the amount of mileage we intend to cover.

We are leaving from Argentina in Janaury on a long trip which may take up to a year.

I am now preparing the bike ready for the trip . We have managed to get our kit down in size which help's a lot when there are 2 of you on one bike.

We have a pannier each for our personal kit and a roll bag on the back for all the camping kit. After a recent trip we decided to change our camping kit and bought the smallest sleeping bags and air bed's we could. This freed up a lot of room in the Roll bag so now we can get the stove and cooking equipment in.

It may help if you have the hump removed from your seat. we have a seat with this done and it seems to give us both more room on the bike.

The xt660z as enough power for me, we dont want to be riding fast as we like to take in the scenery and most roads in 3rd world countries are in a poor condition and therefore safer riden slower. We also like to go off road which I feel the XT660z is best at.

We hope some of this help's, enjoy you trip and have fun.

I hope the trip did not result in your Partner being your Ex.

The question is Daz, if it did, would you still want to go?

Leigh as been my pillion for the last 10 years. I think it takes a very special Lady to put up with me and my riding for that long :angel13:

As it happens it did contribute to her being my Ex. Bloody good job too ! Wouldn't be doing what I'm doing if we were still together.

i just rode 38,000 miles ushuaia to prudhoe bay, east to newfoundland and south to key west, only me on the bike, it was a standard set up but i had no issues, i had a couple ride along with me father and daughter from sweden riding with me from ushuaia to mexico, again a stock set up and they had no issues either, they carried on a different route and i think they did 25,000 miles

my ride was blogged on adv and on wordpress, for some reason they wouldn't allow me to add it here and refused to put up a link for me!!!

so here it is - http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=668901

Was this a Organnized Tour ? or did you plan it all your self and just meet up with that Group ?

because the shipping of the bikes was included with Nick Sanders tour i joined them, also thinking that riding along with him and his knowledge of borders crossings etc. and inclusive hotels on most days it would make life easy...i pretty much regretted it from day one, he was amazingly disorganised, so many things got screwed up because of him alone and being part of a large group was a bad thing. if you are thinking of doing something like have a max of four riders.

i have done plenty of bike trips myself so once we hit northern mexico and everything he was covering was done i took off, so i did around 12,000 miles with the group and the remainder of the ride solo, and once i was alone it was great i had more fun, met more people, had way more adventures and got to ride where i wanted when i wanted.

so that being said i take off and keep going in May 2013 ALONE!!!! and if i meet riders a long the way, great so be it, but if its like that then i always have the option to continue riding alone whenever i want

Organised tours are very popular and meet the needs of many, but there not for us.

First thing that puts me off is the cost ,I don't want to pay to follow someone or have them do all the planning . also having to ride with a group of riders that I don't know puts me off the most , I have to have trust in the capabilities of the riders I ride with.

We like to stop when we want to stop not when and where were told to.

Leigh and I always travel alone apart from this year when we took a small group of friends to Morocco.

We have a few friend's that are also leaving the UK around the same time as us next spring. we hope to cross paths on our RTW ride and maybe meet up for a few days rest.
Then we will be off out on to our own routes again.

Ride safe and Have fun
