thats a good old clock up ..how as she been any faults ??

66T 09-09-11 22:13

That's getting on with it alright! Good effort, I reckon.

UKbri 10-09-11 00:48

The Rectifier died at 17000. No real issue, it had been running heated gloves and jackets for ages so i dont blame it for giving up on me.
The rear spokes have all come loose recently too. I didnt notice for ages as i was doing alot of dirt, snot and gravel up the Dalton and Top of the world highways.
And thats it !!!
Not bad i reckon for the crap ive put it through.

gregor 10-09-11 08:06

I better check my rear spokes now.

Only 25000 miles on my 08.

Maidstone eh? Not far from my home town of Hastings.

Graham 10-09-11 20:17

Just out of interest, how have you managed to rack up so many miles in such a short time?

Done about 16 U.S States and 5 Canadian Provinces/Territories.Been up to Prudhoe, done the Alaskan,Top of the world and Stewart-Cassier Hwys. Having an absolute blast !!! In Rapid City now having some R+R at a friends.

Cool! From the most southern city in the world to almost the most northern? Dunno, haven't been there, but mate, what an outstanding journey of mind, body and motorbike. Seems like the old 660 can be a fairly durable tool in the right hands. Good for you, and well done.

Niek 12-09-11 08:55

85km one way.

Problems so far:
- short in wire to fuel pump under the tank
- rectifier plug
- bold of balancing weight came loose
- bearing of link toasted
- bearing in sprocket carrier has play->chain wears too much
- cush drive wears excessively (lot of inner tube used to overcome this problem).
Probably this is connected to the problem above.

It consumes 1L oil every 2500-3000km, when this increases more I will have to do some repairs (valve seals and piston rings probably).

40km one way, 55.000km's so far

Problems so far:
- short in wire to fuel pump under the tank same here
- rectifier plug
- bold of balancing weight came loose
- bearing of link toasted same here
- bearing in sprocket carrier has play->chain wears too much same here
- cush drive wears excessively (lot of inner tube used to overcome this problem). same here
Probably this is connected to the problem above.
- rear wheel bearings replaced over here
- Silencer replaced by LeoVinces: cat was gone and crack became a gap

It consumes 1L oil every 2500-3000km, 1L to 10.000 over here when this increases more I will have to do some repairs (valve seals and piston rings probably).

More parts were replaced due to multiple crashes and relentless abuse but only limited to:
- handlebar
- left and right mirror
- LH rear indicator
- brake pedal
- clutch lever
- wind shield
- headlight fairing
- RH hard case

... so you might say the Ten is quite durable even thought the finishing/built quality isn't what you'd expected ....

SingleMinded 21-09-11 16:27

I wonder: has this kind of mileage ever been covered by any other XT660Z ... worldwide.... or any XT660R/X?

If not ... I would like to nominate Niek for the Distinguished Mile Munch Order in the first degree:
