Tenere in Picos mountains, Spain

Just got back from a week in Northern Spain's best kept secret, the Picos mountains. Spent one day without a straight bit of road for miles!

Nice unpaved roads as well for a bit of play!

and great campsites

and only an hours ride from the port in Santander! and for the softies! there are some good hotels with great views & facilities.

Ahh I was out there in 2000 on my CCm, amazing place and very cheap at the time, although no doubt the euro has put paid to that !

I would love to go back as the snow was still too deep to ride some of the high passes off road.

did you go past a road with a big bear monument ? and did the local farmers still wear strange wooden field clogs ?

ahh must get back soon a real gem of a place

Have been travelling Europe(western) for a life time two places not miss the Picos and east of Prague up on along the Polish boarder.

And if you are lucky enough to make the Picos, try and find time to drop down onto the Sierra's and visit Salamanca you'll not be disappionted.

Definately agree, went to Salamanca 2 years ago, loads of history, good campsites & close to Northern Portugal

Didn't see the bear monument but I hear there are still bears & wolves in the remote parts. Saw the wooden clogs for sale in some of the villages
