that bloody seat

ok , 1,000 miles in three weeks , just getting to know each other . generally it,s a good bike . I wanted a 660 tenere when I lived in america . I had a suzuki v strom dl 1000 and a kawasaki klr 650 in the garage .
I , m fine with the yamaha just the seat . I can , t live with it . 60 miles and I ,m wrigling about . it,s terrible . I did 10,000 road miles on the kawasaki in a year , but my body could , nt do that on the yamaha . do I have to have the seat rebuilt or can I get a replacement seat for it ?

Dazzerrtw was loking to swpa (+60) his gel seat with a standard one, a few weeks ago - Might be worth sending him a PM ?

Or,,

There is the Sheepskin option (10) or an airhawk.

I've used an airhawk for long distance rides, for me that would be 300+ miles day after day. For anything under that I'm happy with the standard seat.

There are other things to consider;

If I wear leathers, my duration in the saddle is very much shorter than if I have my HG stuff on.

At the same time, and laugh if you want, but your underwear will make a difference too. Seamless 'coolmax' undies (these are not expensive) make life more comfortable too.

There is more between your butt and the seat, and it usually gets fogotten about.

The Gel seat is excellent alday comfort for rider but my pillion perfers the original seat looking for a swap of a original seat and 50.

OK try calling Paul at LambLand 01271 863 646 http://www.lambland.co.uk/shop/. Tell him the size you need colour and even if you want big fur or just a normal woolly jobby.... his stuff is excellent quality..... you can get some 3mm bungee cord off ebay and it's easy to fix down just in case you're worried about it flapping about. ;0) see below… very comfy indeed….. see larry below....:gbxtank:

Airhawks are for life not just for Christmas... :)

Had seats rebuilt, reworked, gel inserts, re-angled and apart from a KLT seat from heaven, the Airhawk is the only thing I would rely on. For mega posh stick a sheepskin ower da top... :)

lambland sheepskin cover best 10 i ever spent on comfort makes a great footwarmer or pillow if you use a 3/4 leghnth sleeping mat too

Is coolmax a trade name? Any idea who sells it?

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 07-07-11 15:34

I think Coolmax is a base product in the same way Gortex is. I've seen these boxers in M&S and Asda, under their own brand names. They are not expensive either.

I just got the dual sport one from alaska leathers ,

original A class sheepskin painted , and very well made ,
buckels in front and back to keep the skin on it when of the pegs ...

I still have to test it for a long run, but a half hour drive already proved that sheepskin really does the trick, I never rode my Ten so comfortable ...

I found my Airhawk small cruiser pad I used to use for work a few days ago. It transformed the Tenere for me - I don't get along too well with scalloped seats (might be something to do with Hugh Jarse syndrome ...). As far as I'm concerned problem solved.

The only issue is that when an Airhawk gets punctured the standard seat seems b..... terrible. And hurts. Bad monkey butt again:pottytrain2::pottytrain2: Always carry a repair kit imo.

I've got a couple of pairs of Alpinestars pants with two gel pads in right where your bum bones are, they work a treat. I've tried my cycling shorts too, but the gel goes right round the crotch and your nads get a bit sweaty under leathers.
