Please feel free to post your photos in this thread, here are my photos, due to rain though only a few turned out, not really very good, sorry.

Road missiles as warned by GULG

My bike after an off road training session on the Friday. XTX's are not supposed to go offroad!

A little road off the Kirkstone Pass called "The Struggle", brilliant ride on an XT.

A bit off topic but - Couldn't do the Nav on Saturday as I was meeting up with my brother.
After a sunny mornings ride around Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton and Hawes we headed down to the bottom end of Windermere and the museum there. Cars, bikes and the Donald Campbell exhibition.

Here's a few from me and seeing as Tony started it, one of you!!

How do you get the large pic's in the posted message, as I have plenty of good ones?

Cheers

My Thanks...

...must go to all who helped the 2011 Lakes weekend happen. In particular GULG and immediate helpers for the excellent planning, XT Nav organisation and a bbq in quite frankly monumentally aquatic conditions..

Bear - for riding North and South with me (at Ten's pace) in what were in hindsight very dangerous conditions on Sunday's ride home - wet and very very windy. Thanks too for waiting for me to pack up on Sunday morning when you could have been half way home instead!

All fellow XTs, BMWs, Triumphs, Yams that made the ride up (or down).

Highlights for me were the excellent turn out for the Friday trail ride, Saturday's XT ride (pre crash) oh and of course the pub and banter.

Well done to uberthumper for winning the XT Nav and bear for losing it in style. I rocked up to a few points (via GPS) only to be just ahead of uberthumper who only had a map! I just wonder what sort of astrophysics uberthumper can do on an abacus!! Perhaps this is why I was on a bit of a mission??

I'll be back for sure next year - come rain or shine and with a straight Ten'.

Will I camp? Not in a flamin million years! B&B for me unless we re-locate to a Spanish bike friendly hotel - I know of some..

I have placed most of my pic's here: http://s1100.photobucket.com/albums/...o374Lakes2011/

If you want me to email one to you direct, please send me a pm.

Once again - Thanks everyone - It was a pleasure..

Lakeland 2011 underwater event

Must join Enduro 374 in giving my grateful thanks to all concerned for organising a brilliant event this weekend in 'orrid conditions. I learned lots on the Nav run but unfortunately arrived too late for the Friday offroad run, hopefully do this next year.

Amazingly strong crosswinds on the ride home on Sunday, ally boxes seem to make great sails!

Thanks again to Tintin for use of spare room in his family's static caravan, sympathies to everyone in tents this time. At least they didn't all blow away....

Looking forward to 2012. Cheers to all!!!

Steve.

NavtXT - The aftermath...

To all those that had a go, I thank you. I know some were a little sceptical about it, but had a go anyway. Some thought the day bagan at 12:00 (tut tut), others had a real go and went for glory!

Basically, everyone got a book of maps (yes the quality wasn't great) and locations of lots of marker points. For each marker point there were some questions (to qualify you were actually there). People got points for visiting markers, some had higher value than others.

First of the day to come knocking at 08:00 was TenereDoug, who employed the help of technology to help him. leaving the site some 45 minutes later in a whirl of dust, noise and fluttering papers......

Closely followed by Bear, who was using a different strategy - "If I find one it will be a miracle" were his parting words as he too left the site in cacophony of exhast noise.

One by one, team by team they left. Stevedud took the opportunity to figure out where the 'on' button was on his GPS, then what followed was a nothing short of amazing! withing the hour, waypoints marked, route plotted they were away.

SelinaXC and Onanist, they had tent zipper failure and didn't manage to break free of it's grip until the sun had left the yard arm and was looking lovingly towards the western horizon...

The site was silent........

First back, with a staggering score, Bear......

Enduro374 was next, having spent the afternoon doing some mods to his bike....

Again, one by one, tick tock, tick tock....... the riders returned.

Excuse of the day "I'm giving you my score card by the medium of paper mush" - it set the scence for the rest of Midlifes weekend.

18:00 was a few minutes away, when with seconds to spare Uberthumper returned, and last in, taking more penalty points than some had to loose (over 200) was TenereDoug (we decided to give 10 penalty points for every minute late the guys were).

The BBQ lit, battling winds and driving rain we struggled on to provide 60 Burgers (thanks to Smoggs, who jumped in when Keithblade though it was a good time for a shower!) and 100 sausages - If I ever see another sausage again, it will be too soon. All the while, employing more synapses than he had to give, Stumpy dave was adding, calculating, ordering until finally, we had the results!!!

There catagories were for the taking:

Single Rider

Winner, taking nearly all the markers -> Uberthumper
Second, who would have won if he had returned 10 minute earlier -> TenereDoug
Third, and also taking 'most compact tent' -> Tequilasunrise

Team

Winner -> Irishguyonabike and Brucetoper1

Single Rider, Non GPS

Winner -> Uberthumper

and one last prize, the Stumpydave Memorial Spoon, given to the lowest score of the day.

-> Bear

Well done to everyone, it seams everyone had there own event, and lots of people reported how they had enjoyed the new format. Next year there will be lots more markers, over a wider area, and lets hope the winners will come back to defend their crowns.

Many thanks to all who organised and helped make it a great weekend.
The Nav XT was a good fun and I was able to see parts of the Lakes I would never had known were there.

Lakes 2011 - Meeting Summary

Did anything happen on the Lakelands you found amusing or worthy of note?

For me the moment I saw Stumpydave trying to park his XTR sidestandless on a steep hill against his engine side cases and a rock. I said to him thats going to fall for sure and it did not much to my amazement.

Dave - Hve you ever tried tightrope walking, you obviously have the balance?

My own personal one was going to fast on Friday night though deep water (on a trail) and getting totally soaked and it wasnt raining at that point. I would not mind but I did it three times! Newbie error.

This photo shows me moments after, my riding gear is filthy!

Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for a great weekend in the Lakes.:winner:

I went with Rooster, and the motorway ride there was fairly long and boring on a XT, but we met a few of you at Lymm, and Tintin invited us all back to his house for lunch:041:.
Rooster and I got off to a good start with our teamwork strategy (Rooster was closest to the Cheese and BBQ sarnis - and I was marking anyone who got too close to the plate). So thank you Tintin for your hospitality. (and the sarnis)

Tintin lead us from Lymm, and our dull journey was soon lifted by our ride over the Kirkstone Pass, on the way to Camp.

A little travel-jaded, we decided on a couple of quiet beers, and an earlier night than others.

The NavXT was a great success, a treasure hunt through some amazing scenery. Although we didn't set off until 12, as we went up to the tea-rooms in the village at 10.30, so that we could plan/plot our route properly over a dry table (as a practice for the Humm). I think we got 6 or 7 of the treasures, and did some work on our map reading, and got back to camp at around 5.00. Lessons learned for the Humm, !

A good evening in the pub ensued.......where we met most of you.

On Sunday, it was a shame that there were only ten of us left, but we had all the sunshine to ourselves!!! Gulg took us on a great ride, and we had fish and chips by the sea for lunch, (irishguyonabike wasn't that hungry, so only had a Regular Donor Kebab-no chips) before a coastal ride back. A great ride.

We pubbed it again in the evening, and the Lamb Henry went down well.

I awoke on Monday at 5.30 am (usual for me), and it was pretty windy. I decided on a shower, but there was a power-cut. The wind was getting worse by the hour, but we got our tents down without dramas, and set off back for home via a supermarket for breakfast. We jumped on the M6 at Penrith, and had to stop at Westmoorland, and again at the next one 20 miles further down, due to it blowing a gale, and very poor visibility! There were four Irish heading home, hopefully they got on a crossing.

Forgive me for not remembering most people's names, but a BIG THANKS to Darren, and all his helpers for the weekend. It was a great success. And it was good to meet all of you at the Lakes. And as we were prepared for rain, it didn't bother us.

(Sorry no video, and the pics didn't come out either due to moisture!)
