dna stage 3

Ok I'm just back from running some tests with my kev mod / dna stage2 filter .
I have the orignal snorkel but the tube has been removed so the inlet is the same as the dna cover .

kev mod is on 5en a half .

I also have leovince sbk exhaust.

The result is not that big , it's a little bit smoother up in rev's but maybe I was expecting too much ...

now I want to buy the stage 3 side filter ...maybe that will give me the result I'm looking for .

Is it a good idea to leave it on all the time ?

I use the bike for daily commuting but also to take it offroad as much as possible few times a week and offcourse over the weekends/holidays...

what with rain ? mud ? dust ? the filter is straightly exposed to the weather etc ... , will that be any good ?

The DNA propietary filter & oil compound guarentees water tightness of their filters, ensuring water is kept out and not allowed in the airbox unless the bike is immerged in water, like when you are crossing a stream or something.

However DNA also produces a cover that seals the filter back in case you really need to use the bike for those difficult rides through water. But otherwsise you are splash and hose wash proof for 1000's of miles and the good thing is these filters are lifetime filters you can always wash them and apply the re-activator compund (oil) also available for sale from DNA through us.

PM me for a quote.

Cheers

The snorkel needs to be removed to get the gains you are looking for, these XT's are very resticked on the intake side.

yes that's what I did the snorkel has been removed , I just cut it off as the ring is then identical to the dna stage 2 cover

any one else here got the Stage 3 side filter ? mine is arriving today ...

are you guys taking it offroad as well ? and does someone use the cover described by captmoto ?

I have the XTR Stage 3 airbox, it makes a huge difference, but I cannot compare to the Stage 2, as I just went to Stage 3. I think Stage 3 has a wider improvement in the rev band.

I take my bike offroad, and just remove the side panels and tape up the sides of the airbox. It doesn't make any noticeable difference to performance,......but then again, I'm offroad then.....

I called up DNA in Greece today and after a while they connected to the right person :

Very friendly ! that's for sure!

DNA was indeed planning to produce a cover part for the stage 3 side airbox filter , but this parts is up till today not yet produced .

The reason is, they are not sure it will be ordered enough ,
The only reason for that is the question if there is an actual gain in using this cover or not ...

The cover completely blocks the air intake to the side so this would leave you with a standard side box ,
This option would be helpfull in case of big water crossing , or heavy mud offroad use , you would be able to temporary place the cover , and remove it and afterwards with the side filter
again free .

So in case things will go very bad as the filter side doesn't always get splashes in normal offroad use , DNA prefers me just to place the original cover when things would go rough
and leave it open as long as you do daily commuting and day to day offroad use .

He also explained that the open filter can without any worry be used for general offroad use and can easly handle dust and water splashes as long is the filter is properly oiled
and MOST Important ! that the filter box is completely sealed with grease !!

Even with the original side filter cases and the stage 2 top filter DNA asked me to make sure I put on plenty of grease on the build in gasket of the cases as the airflow
produced by the dna filter easily could suck in dust or water through the original filter cases ...

The side filter is a big improvement as long as you keep it in good health and maintenance there is no risk at all for the bike ..
