chain life and sprocket size
well, hi again, does anyone know the average life of the chain and sprockets? i have an xt660r, i bought it with 2000 miles on board, then around 5000 miles i fitted a scottoiler touring kit.( from 2000 to 5000 i kept the chain drive clean and greased regularly). now the bike's got about 14200 miles, happy with the scottoiler and the chain and sprockets look good. it's a 2007 bike and so far it's still on the original chain and sprockets. is it time for a change? the slack is ok aswell. then, i want to change the gearing for touring, but my dilema is to change the front sprocket from 15 to 16 t, or the rear one from 45 to 42t? if i choose the first option, do i need a longer chain? thanks

It all depends on how the bike is ridded & how well the chain is adjusted & oiled. I did 15000 miles on one of my XT's with no off road riding before replacing the chain & sprockets.
You can fit a 16T front sprocket on the standard chain. |
Hi radu i have a 16tooth front sprocket that is for a 2008 xtr i believe . It would not fit my ten as the spline is not the same and it has a different offset . I am in north london . It cost me 20 but would take 10 for it if your interested ? .
