economy on premium petrol
Ive been to a sheep property near Delegate (1855km round trip) to help out a mate with his 80yr old dad thats going a bit senile and just got my best economy yet from the XT660R 4.2L per 100 kilometres (68.6miles a gallon) over several stages. I even double checked by GPS and google maps.

Very good, what mods are on your bike & what gear ratio.

mods
Bike is standard other than:
Front sprocket 14 tooth New rear tyre Foam air filter Additionally Ive never touched the A/F mix but the ambient air temp less than 5 degrees during best economy legs. |
Your A/F ratio would have been sitting at 14.7:1 most of the cruising time.

Last december riding home from Adelaide to Melbourne I refueled at Horsham and rode on the western fwy at 100km/h the whole way to the ring road. The most amazing thing happened, my fuel light didnt come one untill 260km!!!!!
So by my calcs that would mean 10L for 260km = 3.8L per 100km Have I messed up the calcs or is this possible? |
I would say that would be about right, when I ran in my XT last year I did a 400km ride in one day & also got around the 260kms on 10 L between 80 to 100KPH.

I last filled up after 251.6 miles (last block flashing for 16 miles or so) and got in 16.68 litres. 68.5 mpg! I had to double check.
|
That's pretty good but not so amazing. In Spain back in July 2008, I was riding my Buell Ulysses between Salamanca and the Portuguese border and, as there was a bit of traffic, I had to stay no faster than 70 mph...67.8 mpg. And that's from a 1203cc.

Very impressing all of the consumptions! Mine has about 5,5lt/100km when riding easy and about 6,5/100km when riding hard. Mostly I ride at 100-120km and the light comes on at about 170-180km. How do you get those consumptions? The lowest I've seen was 5lt/100km when my bike was all stock during a short journey of 200km.
P.S. I have DNA St1&2, PCIII and Kev O2 Mod. |
Now I think about it the 660's fuel consumption is a lot better than my XT500 managed in the 80s. 50 MPG if my memory serves me. Incidentally the Buell has never returned such staggering figures since. I think that if you fit after market pipes, filters etc the only difference you see is a worse MPG figure. Keep them standard. Anyone disagree?

Interesting. I stand corrected. I am currently looking for an XT660R down here in Lagos. Damn sight more expensive in Portugal is buying bikes.
