Airhawk seats

Going to buy one to as to stop numb bum after an hour in the saddle....

Been on the website and the super Ten is listed - recommends the small pillion turned sideways! Must be the same for the 660??
I'm thinking of getting a more regular shape so it can be used on any future bikes. Anyone got one and what size do you have?

Thanks

Or try these, less expensive and probably the same effect:

I've got the Medium Cruiser and used it on a few bikes, not had it on the Tenere yet though. Not cheap, but they definitely work. Did 650 miles home in one day from France, and could easily have done another 100 if I'd had to. Without the Airhawk, my arse was totally numb at 300 miles on the same bike.

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 27-03-11 10:26

I've the same one as Minky, expensive, but you'll only buy it once, then it moves with you from Bike to Bike.

I covered 8000+ miles with mine, on the Ten in 19 days back in 2008. The longest single ride was 1500 or so miles in 30 odd hours (never again). You can just ride day after day after day.

Thanks for all the replies, most useful

Longest stretch I've done in one hit was coming back from the Millau viaduct last summer on my Multistrada which wasn't a problem. Longest on the Ten was 1.5 hrs which gave me a dead a**e

Been on the eblag and got a Medium cruiser (14x 14) for a good price - need to source some straps though as it hasn't got any. Just need to sort the screen now :toothy10:

Cheers

I would'nt bother with the straps, they stay in place pretty well even when you are not sitting on 'em! A slightly weird feeling when using them for the first time (trick is not to put too much air in) as they raise you up a bit but you get used to that very quickly. Essential arse-saving equipment for any run over 50 miles in my opinion.

Kemizz 01-05-11 14:31

anyone droven one of these offroad ?

I mean long day driving could also mean lot's of offroad driving , not only when standing up ... , does the cushion stay put when cornering on dirt tracks ?
I probably need a kahedo , but I just found them so damn expensive

66T 11-05-11 07:01

I have used Airhawk cushions for a while now. My job consisted of being on a motorbike (usually my TTR250) for up to 12 hours a day. Imo the Airhawk not only saves your arse but also your back, as it absorbs a lot of the short, sharp jarring movements so prevalent in off-road motorcycling. If you are a time/distance rider, you just can't go wrong. Btw, I always use the straps, otherwise the cushion will fly off when you are standing up. Using an Airhawk, you will eventually get uncomfortable, but it is nothing like going without. And I don't have any shares in 'Airhawk', either!!

I use the small cruiser one, which may have been superseded by now; not sure.

As I was planning a long trip around Wales, Ireland and Scotland this summer on the Ten I thought to listen to you guys and get some decent seating arrangements sorted. The large Airhawk seemed just the ticket! Tried some sites in UK but coulnd't get another morgage to buy one. (or simply too tight!) Put a bet on an .bay for a medium sized one and it went for 138!! Are they mad?
Next step was to contact an American Shop. First class service so far and 110 for a large one, delivered!
Ordered yesterday and has today already left the US. Should be in the UK today. That means that the UK courier will deliver towards the end of next week i guess.
Keep you posted how it is coming on.
If you are interested, the shop was Ghost Motorcycles and the contact is Howard

muppdog 24-05-11 02:09

Oh yes, it is. The plastic once are way cheaper. Lets just wait and see what happens next. The US postal service can't track it at the moment. Hmmm?
Sure it will turn up again.

I did the same a few years ago. Best thing I have done to overcome big miles pain. The exchange rate was pretty good at the time but even at just over the ton they are worth it. Get the neoprene one as it is repairable. I bought a sheepskin to fit for 5 locally (plentiful up here:)) and the reside in a bin bag for dryness and to look a bit less conspicuous. Large touring as the outer bits just fold if it's a bit big and if you ever buy a Harley it will fit:)

muppdog 27-05-11 18:50

Been using a sheep skin for several years now, in wind or rain. Just wondering how effective the Airhawk will be with a sheep skin on top?
Seat got out of UK customs this afternoon. Goodyyyy!

The Airhawk was/is good and the sheepskin made it that bit better:) I hold mine onto the seat with a cargo net as the straps are a PIA if you want to remove it at stops etc. I am not too bothered about the straps of the cargo net on the bike but the more cosmetically sensitive may not like that. I guess that's why I bought a bike like an XTR....

Best I have done is approx 750 on a GS and my arse was not crippled by that as it was before. If I now ride without it any seat feels like a plank o wood. Must be getting old or wise... or both:)

maxwell123455 27-05-11 22:06

Dad got an air hawk and used it once or twice, very comfy and without the straps if youve got a leather seat the airhawk sticks very nicely.

They are very expensive and you should shop around, my dad got his from canada and it worked out at being a good bit cheaper.

Yep, even with the unfavourable exchange rate you will find things a bit cheaper from North America. I used a US shop and have found the service and general attitude of US retail to be excellent and often a fair bit better than the UK.

It was favourably labelled for customs also as you may/can get stung by that but often things arrive without intervention:)

zakidos 29-05-11 20:57

Any idea which Airhawk seat suits best for a WR400F and the Ten?
Looking for one...

Wayne 29-05-11 23:02

My Wife uses the medium square shaped airhawk on the rear when we are riding two-up, and I use it sometimes for solo rides of more than one day. The longest trip thus far on the Ten was Paris to the Arctic Circle and back - 7,000km over 21 days last summer. For my significant other it was a bum saver and certainly worth the investment for the comfort. I purchased it from the European distributor in Sweden via direct money transfer. No problems.

muppdog 04-06-11 13:40

Just got my Airhawk seat. Cannot wait to try it as i did a tour around North devon and back to Corwall yesterday. 350 miles and my backside was shot to pieces. Shame i am gone away for 3 weeks work in N.I. again. No chance to try it out properly.
One issue was a letter from UK customs. They wanted 27.01 before releasing the parcel. Arguing the point was no option. Had to pay up. Still the seat was a lot cheaper than buying one in the UK or even second hand on Ebay.
Highly recommend Ghost Motorcycle Parts and Accessories in Florida. Howard is the man.
7 days from custom release to local sorting office, not even to the door. That is shocking in 2011!!!

Happy!

Rob

g00ner 14-06-11 16:12

Still loving my airhawk, went for the medium cruiser and it fits well. The straps seemed a little lightweight so bought a length of 20mm velcro off ebay for a quid, did the trick.
I leave it on when I'm trail riding but stand up when off road so it's not really a consideration.
Just need to sort the turbulence now.....

Kemizz 20-06-11 10:46

at the dealer in belgium they have below onces in stock

I tested the medium and small, but the medium is to wide already and the small, is yes like you would guess , to small, nothing mentioned about cruiser or tourer ...

those who have the medium, does it look like the one on below url ?

Wayne 21-06-11 23:49

An alternative perhaps?

I saw these accessory seats at a bike show in France. They are made from a strange 3D fiber (not a foam or gel of any kind) and covered with a tough synthetic material and really looked that they would work. I had a sit on the test bike both with and without the seat and it made quite a difference to comfort. They are also available with an add-on heater, something that would be difficult with an Airhawk. plus you don't have to blow it up or worry about a leak or a puncture half way through a long trip.

Hi,
i am a very happy chap! Out today for the first time on my Airhawk. You just have to try one of these! I got the large one and thought it was too big. But once on it and the right amount of air it it is just bliss. The amazing thing is how little air is actually needed. Ready for the long trip to Scotland.

I understand you.

9000 miles in 19 days - couldn't have done it without the AirHawk, it makes 500 miles a day, day after day easily possible.

I don't use it for day-to-day stuff though.

dallas 02-07-11 17:00

Here some piccies of the Large Airhawk(the Medium was too wide!) on my Tenere, installed today and done some km's to try it out. Hmm, fiddlin' with the right amount of air; seating is a bit higher, kinda gettin' used to it. Front strap is too long, back strap is just right.

Wrigsby1 03-07-11 14:39

I am not the aesthetic type so my Airhawk and sheepskin reside in a black bin bag and i use a cargo net to secure it to the seat. It doesna get wet and is easy to remove in thieving scumbag areas (are there many that are not:))

As it is big wedge I look after its safety as once used never forgotten :)

fac191 20-07-11 15:52

airhawk

Can you tell me is that the Airhawk Cruiser Large in the photos . Cheers .

dallas 20-07-11 21:34

Yep, it is: Airhawk Lite, large 46cmx30cm.

muppdog 21-07-11 20:12

Hi,
I found that if the seat hight is noticeably higher with the Airhawk there is already too much air in it. If your backside just touches the centre of the seat the remaining air is pushed to the sides and widens the seat nicely and offers good support. This way your seat height is not really increased and your ride is not wobbly anymore.
Good stuff anyhow.

Rob
