I am no tecchie......but I think that Lady Luck plays a major part in the outcome. IF your motor is compressing the mixture ready to fire, and all of a sudden instead of fuel and air it gets water, water cannot be compressed so the motor (piston and valves) goes bang!! If instead it was on the exhaust stroke then hopefully it just stops. Good luck!!

This is an old post but i can confirm after a drying out and a good clean out plus 2 oil/filter changes and air filter( think i rode about 150 miles after first oil change) the bike was sound
