can you bump a xt
i dont know if it can be done
can you bump a xt i know some fuel injected bikes cant idont know |
in a word yes! tho there has to be enough power to pump the fuel, we did it in portugal when we had to wait on a straggler, again! as someone stopped their engine but not on the key thus leaving the lights on.
i believe if the ignition is turned on and the dash lights up [pump on] but when the starter is applied the dash goes dead, see where i'm heading? imho it would be better to carry a set of simple jumpleads, i made a set out of 6mm cable 1.5mtrs long, just solder the ends to leave unfrayed connectors, obviously red and black will simplify matters. this proved very usefull for two ktm 690's, yep the owners had a lot to listen to when the tenere helped them back to life bernard |

I don't see why not. Even if it has a cat. I have bumped bikes and cars with cats although you are advised not to on cat equipped vehicles (anyone know why) If its only once or twice whilst you find out whats causing the flat battery it could not do any harm. If its the choice between leaving it and walking home and bump starting I would take the bump any time. |

Great advice, I always carry a VERY lightweight set of jump leads when touring only about 2mm so enough to charge but not enough to start. I wouldnt try to start a bike with them connected as they would melt with the current flow when you push the button but connect the 2 bikes together for 10 mins with the good bike running and then take the leads off and the dead bike should start on the button. |
Yes you can bump them as I found out but theres quite alot of compression so it needs a good slope!..... Mine was dead all the dash lights went out with a flat battery but it came back to life

I found bump starting a bike with high compession in 2nd gear than in 1st gear if the batery has gone poo . Down hill doese help if you have a buddy to help push you just to kick it over'' engine that is :001: . Just I had the experiance on the vmax 1200 and it worked . Ok said my piece  Martin |

On the subject of bike jump leads i have a set i made from a twin core 2mm sq 25amp wire and have found it to be adequate for bike-to-bike jumps . |
Yes... easy
... it is!
Didn't expect it to be (in memory my old tuned SRX600 was almost impossible to bumpstart)... ... but all it took was a short push (on level and paved ground) in second gear and a jump on the saddle. Battery had gone dead (at least: not enough juice to make the starter engine go round), engine was cold, but surprisingly enough it started with first attempt. HJ |
