Tenere Bash Plates
 

Hi there all,

My first post here, I've had a look but can't seem to find quite the answer I'm looking for ( probably for good reason...! ) as it concerns tenere bash plates and I'm well aware of their variety.

I started out with the touratech large plate/tool tube combo but then came to the conclusion a) too expensive and b) the tool box is just one more shiny thing on a shiny bike that could draw someone who perhaps wants to do more with it then just look..

It's now a toss up between the OTR one, and the adventure spec crash bar/plate combo. Obviously price is an issue so I am currently inclined towards the OTR one, especially as Jmo and many others have test proven it....BUT.....I don't intend to replace it for a wee while and want something that'll last and survive falls/drops and general overlanding wear and tear.

Any experience with both or any would be greatly appreciated.

I have the OTR one, it's the neatest solution in my opinion. I'm not a great fan of engine bars, so this is one reason I like the OTR solution. I've had mine on for about a year and it has seen some pretty rough riding, and has the marks and dings on the underside to show.

Despite the winter, it isn't showing any signs of corrosion.

I would certainly be happy to take the bike out into the wild with just this protection, I've tried it through Portugal last year, but then there was also guys with the OE bash plate and that worked fine too. It's all too easy to write off the OE bash plate, but I have jumped up and down on mine and it still in one piece!!

I hav the Adventure-spec one and it is very sturdy. The main reason for getting it was to get some protection for the waterpump as well as protecting the underside of the engine. I can thoroughly recommend this product. It also does not have the big gaps between the engine bars and the bash plate as other designs have.

PS Some of the other guys that have this combo have also added further plate to fill in the gap on the right hand side and a smaller patch on the left hand side.

I bought the adventure spec engine guard , because I thought they offered the best protection.

That said I wanted total protection for under the engine when off road riding and I felt that the Adv spe guard had a few Gap's in it that needed filling to prevent any chance of the cases being damaged.

I can't see these low snug fitting engine bar's being a problem, you tend to find that crash bar's that are mounted higher can cause more damage if you throw your bike down the road.

So as GLUGo says, the stock plastic one is actually pretty tough!



However, I did fit the OTR one for Heroes-Legend:

And I'd say it is a very good option if you'd feel happier with a piece of metal under your engine... it's neat, strong, and fits well.



Personally I don't feel you need a huge tube to protect your waterpump, but others will differ and maybe I've just been lucky... but certainly of all the 'heavy duty' options out there, I'd go for the GiT one from Adventure Spec as the most solid and well-considered design...

I�ve just added the Touratech BP, with tool box, to my 660, and it�s the bees-knees :YouRock: yeah, Touratech aren�t known for their low prices, but, I think, like MetalMule boxes, they�ll last a lifetime�

I have the Adventure Spec one too and I went through a rocky canyon a few weeks ago where I hit/scraped many large rocks and recommend it highly. I like the protection it gives to the waterpump housing. You can see what a great job it does from the scratches on the pictures below. Downside is it's a bit heavy and isn't easy to put on or take off.

Adventure spec combo: Very well made, very strong, bars protect the pump area, quality looks, errrrrr, errrr buy it. ( and no I'm not brown nosing them after my little error when buying the Pivotpegz from the USA )

As far fitting goes there was a point I wished I had three hands but when its on it aint coming off as far as I'm concerned.

Shame ADV Spec doesnt make just the bash plate as I already have H&B engine bars that offer much more protection I think. If they made just the plate I would buy one and of course if they answered the email I sent to them when I asked!
