Bought my Stolen pannier frames!

Well as the title says I've bought back my own stolen pannier frames!!!!!.

The story goes like this, Crusty saw some Metal Mule pannier frames on ebay at 90 miles from his place and called me up to have a look.

I duly did this and saw that they were advertised from Halifax which isn't far from where I live. Crusty contacted the guy and as he had won the articles for me, said that I'd come and get the frames from him directly, a meet was arranged.
I met up with the guy and paid cash for the frames, had a chat with him and mentioned that I'd had a bike with MM frames stolen last year, stupidly not thinking to keep my mouth shut.
I set off back home but just had to check on a feature that my frames had, in particular a small weld that was missing, ...............and yes the same feature was there! (or not in this case!)
I got home and called the police to explain what my concern was. The officer brought my case up and we discussed my concern and I gave as much info as possible to him.
I managed to get printouts of the ad before it came off the ebay and also some other information.
Then the local bobby contacted me and said that they were going to get CID involved as he felt that it would be too big a task for him.

The latest update is that this bloke has been hauled in for questioning, but appears to have a chequered past and didn't give anything away.
It appears that he is just a middle man that gets bits off the real thief and drip feeds them onto the second hand market.

Well this time he's been caught out as he also had a headlight for the Tenere on ebay which mysteriously disappeared as soon as I got home from getting the frames. (Me and my big gob!)

Irrespectively this bloke knows the thief and by now will have informed him that there are many people out there looking for Tenere parts and the police will be monitoring the Halifax / Kieghley area of Yorkshire for stolen motorbike bits.

My feeling is that these guys have brought a world of trouble on themselves and have some red hot bikes that they will not be able to get rid of, I hope its just a matter of time before that do get caught red handed.

I for one will do my best to keep an eye out for these scumbags in order to stop them giving grief and distress to others.

On the bright side I now have a set of MM frames for my MM panniers therefore I am now in a position to sell the original Yamaha panniers and mounting frames, complete with all keys but a few stickers.

ALL MONIES FROM THE SALE OF THE PANNIERS TO GO TO SPOTTYPLAYERS' CHARITY, ANY OFFERS?

G4ND3RS 24-01-11 23:36

I hate thriving scum bags, it just goes to show that Earl was right..... Karma

Will the yam panniers only fit the xtz, or will they fit the x and r as well?

steveD 24-01-11 23:59

These particular panniers and frames are designed specifically for the new Z'ed.
I don't doubt that with a bit of ingenuity they could be made to fit the X or R models but I am not familier enough with these models to know if the top mounting / hanging bar is anywhere near in design.

I'm sorry you had them pinched...did you get insurance payment for them then?

Great gesture mate but only to be expected from you mate - selfless to the end:notworthy[1]:

The main point is that there is some scumbag over the other side of Halifax who thinks he and mates can steal with impunity. Not only that, all should know of this person or persons to keep their own personal eyes and ears open to stop them. I know that there are quite a few XT660 members in that neckj of the woods and I would not want any to go through the misery that I have had to endure.

As for the panniers, they came with the bike and Spottyplayter had to sell the bike because of his personal circumstances. I got the bike at a deal and I said when I got it that I would sell them and give the money to him, to do with what he wished. If he wants to put all of the proceeds to his charity then fine, thats not up to me. I hope that you ladies and gents out there will bear this in mind if you wish to purchase these panniers.

I'll get pics soon.

Cheers SteveD

Er, Richard, these pannier frames were on the bike when it was stolen!

The whole bike got nicked, it appears that someone is now breaking it and I've got my original pannier frames back!:tazdevil:

Hope this clarifies

Fact

Bodies buried deeper than 1 meter, 20 meters from a road in a secluded areas are rarely discovered. So dont be lazy, drag the corpse well in and dig a deep hole.

A7 UFO 25-01-11 11:40

do you have a mate who's a pig farmer?

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 25-01-11 13:08

Good for you steve. Just be careful the insurance don't ask for them back.

dawesdave 25-01-11 14:58

just-my 25-01-11 17:45

dazzerrtw 25-01-11 18:12

steve, if you bought your own frame's back, and then notified the police and they found out that that chap was selling stolen good's...Then surely you will get your money back ?

I hope they string the thieving scum up!

As for your generosity :applause: you're a top bloke!

I'm in need of Panniers on my new Z at the mo so I would normally have bitten your arm off but it's that Taxing time of year for us sole traders so I'm gonna cry a little bit now instead :eusa_boohoo:

steveD 25-01-11 23:49

I'm not gonna tell my 'Old' Insurance company

I'm pretty sure that these scum will not try and sell any more bits on ebay (I for one will be watching)

The police did interview the bloke I got the pannier rails off but he wouldn't admit to anything so I'll just keep the bits and be happy with my 'deal'.

I do not need to sell the Yamaha panniers and their mounting kit, but this is for Spottyplayer. I will not go into detail, but having met the young fella for barely a few hours I did have immense admiration for him for what he had gone through and how he has bounced back with such a positive attitude. This sale is for him, not for me, someone send a fair price to him and I will either personally deliver anywhere in the UK OR pay postage. Is that a fair deal? Any takers?

Hi Steve, you have a PM.

and if you look closely you will see the missing weld that I identified these frames as mine. Top right underneath the mounting screw, just visible.

Bring on the camping / rally season. I've got one under my belt already, last weekend with Crusty at the Ogri rally, Kemble airfield. Will post piccies when I get time.

I think you have just shown one very good way we can combat these to$$P0t$, sometimes, slight seconds, or less than perfect fitting, or unique items etc do make help. The fact yours were the first MM ever made for these bikes, and the less than perfect quality control has really helped. Even though in this case the guy appears to have got away, he's under focus now and so will his communications, mates and contacts. You have provided a piece of the puzzle, it's down to Mr & Mrs Plod to put the bits together now.

Now, I need a replacement headlight (my internal adjusters have dissolved into a duty mess and my ligh 'bounces' as I ride ! ......... I'll be searching eBay

photographicsafaris 10-02-11 22:02

As someone who's had their ('87) tenere stolen I totally sympathises and know how it feels to watch ebay like a hawk, looking for those personalised bits to come up from a broken bike.

I hope that the kicking you gave yourself diddnt hurt too much!

I believe that the ebay seller needs to be posted here and on other forums, or at least a link to the item.
Need to be strong as a community and send out a clear message to theiving scum.

Theres no malice here, and if there were I would go for the front end of a Landrover bumper causing a 20 meter skid mark, ending 1 meter off the road!
