Range on the XT1200z

What's the best you've gotten out of a full tank on the XT1200z? Am looking for the next bike to replace my 660z but the lack of range puts me off.

mac-cos 18-01-11 18:25

only got 800 miles on my 1200 but a long commute today over fast A roads and motorway today got ~185miles to reserve trip kicking in. I suspect I've got over 5 litres left from previous fill ups at reserve trip starting so probably an easy +50miles left. I'll update when I fill up as I'm still defrosting.
I was pushing on as much as possible upto a reasonalble "safe" speed running in sport map (which is alledgedly thirstier but I'm not convinced yet) .
So I think it can get close to the 660 range but will very much depend on how much you spank it.

A7 UFO 18-01-11 22:18

its got the same 23ltr tank as the 660z hasn't it? If it does 230m to a tank I'll be mightily impressed.

Out of interest, what's the buffetting like at motorway speeds?

mac-cos 18-01-11 23:44

Buffeting is significantly better than it was on my 660z. That used to fair rag my head around when pushing on. I still get a bit of it but it isnt as tiring as the 660 was. For info I'm on the stock 1200 screen/postion and had a stock screen on the 660 both with me using a shoei hornet. That was the worst bit for me on the 660 as it started to get tiring when making progress on faster roads and required a lot of throttle too which may have contributed to the range I used to get on the 660 (seemed to be lowest of those posting on another thread). With the 1200 its far more in its comfort zone so has more reserves left to crack on when needed.
That said some (on advrider) have got issues with 1200 buffeting but sometimes I think peops want car like serenity on thier bikes (goldwing owners ?) as long as it doesnt annoy me i'm usually happy.

That, is a a very good point. I like being on a bike because it's closer to the elements, so when people complain about it I have difficulty understanding thier issue.

thing is, I want to get the bluetooth system for my schuberth helmet so I need to keep ambient volume down on my next bike. Even with a givi screen, there's no way I'd here the earphones on my 660.

I have a bluetooth helmet limked to my GPS and the bike noise is not a problem. The gps has MP3 and can be heard at any speed.:notworthy:

and you're on a super? If so, that's exactly what I wanted to hear (obviously dependent on what helmet you wear and your height/body proportions).

Ah, what you need is the StarCom 1 Digital system. I have one and they are brilliant, if expensive. Even the basic mic's have better noise canceling that anything else I have tried, including the Scala Rider.

If you want to have crystal clear sound, then look at theses -> http://www.audiorelief.co.uk/shop/in...045eb04b2e5c07

I have the wind noise ones, and they are pretty good in that the wind noise is cut out and you can still hear, but they do have funny affects on music as they are filtering out some noise but not others. Or look at the music/phone type plugs.

These things aren't cheap, but you can take them from any bike to any bike - leaving you free to choose your bike based on other things.

you have these ones?

Seconded! Although I am still using the original Starcom1 system which is a bit bulkier and has less options to fine tune it to your particular needs. There's also the Starcom Advance which is the previous (analog) version of the Starcom digital.

yes, I use those as well. But only on longer rides.

80 for earplugs might tip my mrs over the edge as I've recently bought helmet, boots and trousers. I've bought the ones I posted the pic of earlier (18). Thanks for posting the link up.

also I'm waiting on Wigan Yamaha to come back to me with a px valuation on my bike against one of their s10 demos :042:

Old Git Ray 22-01-11 19:14

I have a problem with the Yam screen (the large (!) one ).

The turbulence buffets onto the top of my wifes head.

I will be fitting a WASP WORKS screen adjuster and a MDA VARIO screen in about a fortnight.

Will keep you posted.

Back to the o/p just filled up and got 18.47 litres in for 191miles. in theory that leaves 4.5litres left in 23l tank. So averaged ~47 Mpg and should be able make just over 230miles on a tank to dry, maybe more ir you ride like a nun. Ps my onboard Dash showed 46mpg av so that seems pretty accurate too.

I get around 400 Km's out of a tank. If I ride like a rabi I can get about 440 till dry

mac-cos 08-02-11 10:13

Lol I must ride like a <insert suitable simile>

Nuns

I went to a Catholic school in the country and the few times I was in a car with nuns they didn't actually drive that slowly, actually they tended to drive like loons and flat out on the open road. Where did the impression come from?

I wonder my self . Is it not " with gods speed" that they bless each other?
