Airbox/intake for offroad use
Hi,
I've been thinking. Is the DNA stage 2 mod suitable for offroad use, or does it let to much dust in? Or will I be better of using the standard airbox fitted with a foam filter ? I have a PC3 and OTR 2-1 exhaust installed. |
I live in southern Spain for a large part of the year where it is very dusty and the combination on my XT660R of Stage 1 filter (slight improvement) and the Stage 2 DNA (huge improvement) with the PC III and appropriate map gives me a great torque boost throughout the range for riding in the mountains. The Stage 2 actually improves filtering when it gets dusty as the filter oil traps even smaller dust particles as it builds up. Try one and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
No experience of the 2-1 but I believe that you may experience even better gains in torque terms from that set-up. |

If oiled/ greased sealed & service regularly the stage 2 air filter is no problems in the dust. It would offer the motor more air in dusty conditions as the main filter is small & can get clogged quickly.
I also like the fact you can service the DNA filters after your dust ride & the filter is back to new, with the OEM paper ones you can knock off the dirt & that's about it the fine paper will still be full of dirt. If you try to blow off the dust on a paper filter it will compress the dust particles deap in the paper element & make it more restricted. If you are going to ride in rivers & deap water then the stage 2 filter is not really for you, you could always modify the air box lid as shown in the mod section to reduce this problem. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=13037&page=3 |
Thank you all very much. I think I'll try the Stage 1+2 filter out then :-)
