My mods so far-
Being winter is nearly with us,the bike now travels the 100 odd mile round trip to the Plain on the back of my trailer. And with the road miles dropping off,I can make some changes to suit the Plain in the winter-
http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4294.jpg 1) Swedish Army Special (Mitas) tyre on the front...MT 21 on the rear.I'm not quite sure about the front yet and will give it one more go....if not then the MT21 will go back on the front. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4293.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4288.jpg Lifted the front mudguard up 20mm,removed the tow hook and fitted a fender extender. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4295.jpg I had and old set of WR250 hand guards that could be made to fit with a little modding- http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4289.jpg I've also changed the gearing which is now 14/47 along with a TT gear lever ,frame and sprocket guard- http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4292.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4287.jpg. Other mods include a 660R rear caliper guard- http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4286.jpg A TT large rack and soft bag to suit, and with the rear foot pegs and mirrors removed to save crash damage/weight......which I tested on Saturday!! http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4298.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_4299.jpg Only my pride was damaged. Cheers, Andy. |
how much weight
Don't take this personally if you have removed your pegs but...
Everytime I read about removing the pillion pegs "for weight saving" it strikes me as a joke, but closely read most of the motorcycle mag reviews of heavier bikes and 75% suggest their removal. It is just padding for their story. The pegs weigh next to nothing to start with and are dam handy to dink your mate/girlfriend/mistress. Ok, so I weigh very close to 100kg, and I accept that I could go faster if it was only 75kg. Why is it that you never see a reviewer saying: "oh the XT660 has reasonable performance which would have greatly improved if I wasn't such a fat *******" I just don't get it, probably never will. |
My rear pegs are off, my bike is registered as a single seater.
Nice work by the way.:coolsmiley: |
I found the rear footrest hangers get in the way of the heel of my boot, especially when putting the stand down.
It's worth putting the bolts back in the hanger plates, they bend easily in a fall without them. I've got a MITAS C19 front tyre Tom, best one I've tried by far and a CO2 rear. Not a combination you'd want for too many tarmac miles, I was lazy left them on for my commute to work and had a 25 mile ride home in the dark and rain which was interesting. Both are wearing better than expected from an enduro tyre on a heavy old bike. |

The front tyre will need a couple hundred miles on it before you get use to it.
The tread is so deep that they will move around alot on the tarmac and especially when braking. Off road in the gloopy stuff they are great. I have put my road tyres back on because I use my bike now for commuting to work 15 miles each way. Nice mod on the front mud guard :toothy4:. It won't happen but on full compression the bottom of the triple clamps (were you took the tow hook off) will hit the mud guard. |
I do like the sprocket guard. Last enduro I did the DR-Z pulled so much mud in behind the sprocket cover that it was bulging outwards :D.
However I'm not sure if I can face the shame of actually buying something from Toura**** |
