Go Australian Made

I don't have one myself (saw several on bikes though) but they are well made. They don't fit with Hepco Becker crashbars.

Go Aussie made, you can't go wrong.

The one i used to have was from touratech ,very very well made but expensive , it did stand up to being hit by a 4x4 side on with hardly any damage ,so can highly recommend them from personal use .
If i was to buy another R i would look at getting the single can conversion as the ground clearance is not that good and used to bottom out quite a lot ,all in good fun though

I think it all depends on what you term as off roading

Jasxt would have done alot of off roading that other people would have used something like a drz400 or even lighter or off road basis machinary

Ive only done a bit of off roading and find that the standard exhausts are low but you can live with them, but something like a 2 into 1 would be good if you wanted to push the bike further.

As for bash plates, again youve a few options.

Home made, can be done and you know what you make, and what it should be able to withstand. Takes time though

I got a SW motech one (now discontinued) and it works with the oe pipes, its 1.3mm alumimum, its taken a good few hits and bashs but still works and has done its job. Was 40 so very cheap but has grounded out a couple of times.

Touratech, not used it but they are suppose to be bomb proof, but are very expensive and cover quiet alot of the bike.

Take note though the water pump is very exposed and most bash plates dont cover them so either crash bars or another small protect should be got

after much deliberation, I went for the original Yamaha one. It is great, provides good protection and you can do most of the servicing (incl oil change) with it in place.
Now I understand it is not for hardcore off roading where yo would need not only heavier guard but also larger protection area. Both Touratech & OTR seem to offer good products

i can only say that without my metal mule 2-1 exhaust and bash plate i couldn't even imagine offroad riding with xtr...
chop a few kilos with removing one exhaust pipe get a little bit more space under you and then you can consider off road riding.
