Skid plate mounts
Does anyone have any pictures to show me how the OEM skid plate fits onto the XTX? A guy on Ebay has a skid plate for sale but with no brackets or fixings. I am tempted but need to know what I need to get made or buy if possible.
Any pictures you have please post. |
Surely someone has taken some pictures of their bikes skid plate mountings! LOL.
Seriously does anyone have any pictures I need to see what I need as Ebay has a genuine skid plate with no brackets. |
Is it the same as the ten?
If so I have the skid plate - was on the bike for 300miles and then taken off. Plate has two bolts at the rear end and a couple of flat headed machine screws at the front. Can send photos 2 moro if you are interested. |

if it is the same as on XTR, I think I have the mounting instructions somewhere.
The fitting kit is quite involved. Let us know |
I have just got a skid plate so as soon as it arrives I will post pictures up seeing as I was not flood with information!
|
I will post a scan of the instruction & parts doc as it says it is for XT660. So assume it is the same for R & X
I am waiting to get account confirmation from photobucket so that I can upload the scan!!! |

I am at the mercy of the forum before I can move forward. So if anyone can help out please do. This is what I have... http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/SAM_0812.jpg |
Well 1 hour trawling through hundreds of posts and I find that we have a post containing a picture of the bracket that was NOT sent to me...
Fitting instructions still required So I can see what I am missing. http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...5072008200.jpg |
here it is
Gosh finally managed to do it!!
Such a pig of a site. It doesn't work properly with opera and can not load PDF's:computer: it looks that you are missing the bottom braket (5). It is a substantial unit. Make sure you fir all the rubber grommets. I have had no change in engine sound nor vibration or bolts getting loose, because of them (I think) Also critical is item 1 Good luck http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/.../skidplate.jpg |
Awesome, thank you. You have just resolved a dispute in my favour!
|
Tony,, there was no :no[1]: dispute their mate.. it was all jist disscussion :luuurve:

Well after some fun and games I finally got my bash plate fitted. The secondhand standard one did not come with the rear bracket so after a failed attempt by a friend to make me a bracket (of which he had my bike over a whole weekend! I had to dust off the tools and do it myself.
I made a rough template, used some box section and flat bar, drilled the relevant holes and cut/trimmed to suit. Welded the two pieces together and painted it. Gota few bolts/washers and nyloc nuts and job done. Its not the prettiest of jobs but it is rock solid and works. Also fitted some new hand guards and crash bungs. Its looks ok now... http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/SAM_0858.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/SAM_0855.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/SAM_0860.jpg |
Same question as before...
Just reviving this old thread because the pics have been removed and so doesn't answer my question.
Can anyone tell me (or, even better, show with a pic or attach pdf mounting instructions) how the genuine XTR / XTX skid plate mounts at the rear? Specifically, keen to know whether they attach to the open loop brackets at the bottom of the frame (i.e. that same section where the suspension link attaches to, if that makes sense). Thanks in advance! |
