Tenere at Clatterinshaws ---

Had a wee spin out round by Clatterinshaws Loch today. I was slightly de-tuned after last night's Guinness so stopped to take a pic or two in the sunshine.

Had to fight this wee fella first or my sausage roll was a gonner.

Then I took a run round t'other end of the loch ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...sTenere030.jpg

The Iridium Blue screen arrived yesterday after waiting four/five weeks for it but I think it was worth waiting for ---

Here it is again in case you missed it first time ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...sTenere024.jpg

I fitted these lower links from Metal Mule a few weeks back --- they lower the rear by 20mm and soften her too so I firmed her up by one click on the spring pre-load ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...sTenere026.jpg

All this let me pull the fork legs up through the yokes 26/28mm and keep the handling neutral ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...sTenere029.jpg

I've taken that stoopid gimp out of the seat which puts the seat height back near the original height --- even got the original seat cover lining up quite nicely ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...sTenere027.jpg

Oh yes my 'new' Shark lid - bought her in February and wore her for the first time today - she's quieter than the Aria's & Shoi's I've been accustomed to - light as well - I think she'll do.

Nice pics! And good mods.

Looks good mate.

Please can you measure the center to center of the rear links for us?

uncle ricky 12-09-10 12:09

Lovely pictures. I think the fork legs up through the yokes 26/28mm is WAY TO MUCH though. I have the lowering links and from my riding experience with the Tenere I ended up putting the forks back to were they were to start with.

Just my opinion

stoic bloke 12-09-10 13:32

hi i like the job you did on the seat, can you give more info on that? as its the sort of shape im looking for and as it keeps the original cover result!

I worked on it with a mate who normally re-upholsters armchairs and such like. We took the original cover off. I showed him what shape I wanted - we picked out the firmest lump of foam we could find in his shed and he cut it to shape with an electric carving knife. It's almost right - just a smidgeon low where it starts to kick up at the front. Trouble is you only get one go at it as pulling the staples isn't very kind to the original seat base.

He stitched an extra piece both sides ot the original cover then re-fitted it. He has got the lines spot on I think. I did over 170 miles of mixed going today - legal forestry tracks - one lane hill roads and a blast home on an 'A' road. No probs - I didn't have to think about my tender ass once. An added plus is the more relaxed knee bend makes it easier on my creaky old knees when I'm climbing up onto the pegs.

Kev, don't want to jump in but I exchanged my rear links today and I also have a brand new pair of standards at home. I have just measured the ones that I have here and can confirm that the centres are 125mm

Incidentally and this is quite remarkable, I will obviously need longer links as I'm not that tall (no sniggering at the back!) my mate had a pair of links from a Suzuki Goose and they were 8mm longer and fit perfectly and I mean perfectly, no mods at all necessary, holes exactly the same size, just links a bit longer. Measured bike with original links on and then after with the 8mm longer links and the rear has dropped about 35mm. I then dropped the forks through exactly 20mm (vernier) and I now can put the balls of my feet on the floor. Result.:yahoo:

givitsum 13-09-10 10:14

a result ---

There you go Kev - a result and I don't have to lie on the floor squinting up under my filthy bike trying to measure my new links - 125mm the man says :applause:

After my short 50 miler on Saturday I put together an intesting mix of 170 miles of gravel strewn forestry tracks - single track hill roads and fast sweeping 'A' roads on Sunday in SW Scotland.

First pic is on the side of Loch Doon near the start of the Galloway Forest Trail ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ntourSW036.jpg

Next one is 15 miles later at Loch Braden near the far end of the trail - I must have enjoyed it - the ruefull smile was because of my many attempts at taking a pic with the camera on auto - 10 secs delay is sometimes not enough (lol)

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ntourSW025.jpg

A few miles later it rained ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ntourSW024.jpg

But not for long - had a crackin ride in the wet over the top and down the long single track into Glen Trool to visit Bruce's Stone ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ntourSW023.jpg

It was one of those days where I was singing all the way - even or especially in the rain ---

And when I arrived home at Kirkcudbright the tide was in and the sun was shining ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ntourSW021.jpg

A great day out and my recent mods suited me just fine - the taller screen and Shark helmet mean't that for the first time on the Tenere I didn't use ear plugs - another result!

Tin-bashing ---

Since fitting the tall screen and re-shaping the seat on my Ten I've noticed a vast improvement as regards beating the turbulence and pain in the bum that made 10,000 miles round europe such a trial last year.

The wind tunnel at the front of the tank was the next thing to get sorted. Today I tried my hand at tin-bashing - well alloy sheet bashing to be precise and now that ugly gap below the headlight has been filled in. I've tried her on full lock both sides and there's about 6mm clearance from the clamp bolt heads on the bottom yoke so it shouldn't be a problem at MOT time. It's eighteen months away anyhow. :icon_rolleyes:

They are all minor mods but the bike is slowly coming round to being MY Ten :happy5:

A couple of pics to show what I'm talking about ---

What screen are you using?

I need to get a slightly taller one than standard..

Cheers and looks like perfect terrain for the Ten'.

givitsum 23-09-10 00:16

what screen ---

The screen is from Powerbronze --- very posh in Iridium Blue.

I'm colour blind but it looks alright to me. Sorry to take so long to reply but I just got back from Tiree tonight.

It was well worth the visit. It's surrounded by horseshoe shaped beaches.

This one is about one mile long ---

Tenere on the Isle of Tiree 2

The dunes are so fragile - I had my walking boots and trekked this bit ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...Tiree160-1.jpg

well worth it when I saw hares - snipe and other wild things :snorting:

I got lucky and found this stoney beech at the end of a long rocky track ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...m/Tiree095.jpg

Well - long by Tiree standards ---

One beach had a few boats ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...m/Tiree178.jpg

it was the main harbour on the island ---

Some boats were older than others ---

but at least the nails held ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...Tiree173-1.jpg

and - I found my favourite boat complete with fishing rod - raring to go ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...m/Tiree169.jpg

There was one beach covered in litter ---

with boards strapped to their feet ---

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...Tiree186-1.jpg

Yup! It's the RAF flying training school - the coalition has cut the allocation for jet fuel

Plenty of signposts - all single track roads with liberal amounts of gravel to keep the rider on the ball ---
