Hi
Would it be possible to make the forum tapatalk native? If the tapatalk plug in is installed the forum can be entered through the tapatalk app for the Apple Iphone. It is also avaliable for android phones.

Best regards
Joel

We'll definately look into it as we must move with the times, thanks for pointing it out to us.

Great! I've tried the app on a couple of other forums and it works fine and makes it easier to read the posts on the small phone screen.

I've never administrated a forum but it arena easy to integrate. From what I could see it's free to download the script and then the user pay an app fee.

stevied1969 09-09-10 16:55

Do they provide a time limited demo for the app? The reason I ask is that I often access this and other forums via the iPhone (posting this from one now infact) and I have never thought "oh I wish this was more iPhone friendly". Kind of curious to see what difference it makes, but I couldn't imagine buying an app to solve a problem I never realised existed.

It does when one of the company directors has the nerve to ask me what I've spent all day doing too :)

You are totaly right, of course. There has probably not been one situation when I've REALLY needed to visit a forum from my phone. But for pleassure I tend to do so more and more often.

Using a touch screen to navigate a forum is pretty troublesome as they have a lot of links that you press when trying to scroll.

So, yes it is fair to say it is unnecessary but as these phones are going to be more and more common I can't see the point in NOT optimizing the forum for more ways of access.

stevied1969 09-09-10 20:46

Don't misunderstand me, by all means as long as it doesn't cost the Captain anything then I'm all for improving access, my question about the availability of a free trial is purely for me. Just wondered if I'm missing out on anything.

We are looking into it and this will be one of David's (motonacio) to do, but must adhere to a priority list and at the moment is not very urgent as is the forum software upgrade and the implementation of a new anti-spam system that will avoid the 8-10 registration attempts per day of the B.O.A.'s which I am one by one stopping, banning and then deleting once their IP and email addresses are logged into our banned folders. Those are a pain in my RS. :022:

joelr 09-09-10 21:56

Just a request to look into Capt, I guess there is a lot to do just keeping this place running...

There is a "Tapatalk read only" app Stevie, that would give you a chance to try the features, all but posting that is...

A quick look on their site

Q: Which forum system does it currently support?
A: Currently phpBB3 3.0.x, vBulletin 3.7.x/3.8.x/4.0.x, Invision Power Board (IPB) 3.0.x and Simple Machine Forum (SMF) 1.1.x/2.0.x are supported.

We are still on vBulletin 3.6.8 so it will not be possible until the forum has been updated.

stevied1969 09-09-10 22:29

Well the good news is the read only version is free of charge, unfortunately none of the forums I use support it :(

Still when one does at least I can try it out for nothing.

midlife crisis 10-09-10 17:03

I was looking at Forum Runner for the iPhone, it DOES support V Bulletin AND IS FREE TO ALL.

I know this is a pain but if it makes the site even more accessible it can only be a good thing right? I'll be honest I miss you guys but I'm not always working in a place where clients allow me access, being able to use my phone comfortably would be a great help.

+1 on the tapatalk forum app!

I use this app for all forum browsing on my iphone - I don't always have access to a laptop and it is nice to browse while commuting or travelling.

Great app, only a few bucks and makes forum browsing much, much easier for those of us with aging eyes and fat fingers (especially those forums that insist on using something other than black text on a light background!!).

CaptMoto 24-02-11 04:05

Tapatalk will be added soon as we do the forum software upgrade, our current version is not supported by tapatalk.

syzygy9 10-03-11 13:43

I'm not sure what happened here but lo and behold tapatalk announced itself when browsing this forum on my iPhone . . . and yes it does work very well. So congrats on getting this forum on to tapatalk - very good and much easier browsing on these dastardly small iPhone screens!

Tapatalk became available on the 6th March for our forum version. I added it with the help of nein and CaptMoto today.

Enjoy.

edit: (I don't have a smart phone so can't test it myself - please post back here with details (simple person type lol) of any problems)

I have a Motorola Defy, and to be honest the web browsing is pretty good. I did see the Tapatalk option come up, but I just can't see any reason to pay to see the same website that I can see as clear as day on my screen.

My daughter has an iPhone, and I have to say I don't think the display is as good as the Defy. Doesn't bounce as well either!

I see solutions on the lookout for problems all the time in this industry.

Tapatalk is not yet working 100% you can only view the visitor board and topics from our website, in other words areas which do not require a register member to log in, so i am not celebrating yet, yes it's a step forward towards full tapatalk access but we ain't quite there yet.

That's why no formal announcement had been made as yet.

Work in progress and all that...

tapatalk reformats the forum so browsing is much more intuitive and easier to see and navigate on a small, touch controlled screen (insert favourite brand of smart phone here). It doesn't add anything you cannot already see on conventional web browser. Personally, as a 'middle aged' (read poor near eyesight and fat fingers!) although relatively tech savvy iPhone user I find tapatalk much easier to navigate around some of my favourite forums.

My first preference is always a PC, but I am not always around a PC and when travelling an iPhone is extrordinarily useful. And as for the cost - at A$3.99 - it really is a non-issue.

Try it, you won't go back to a web browser . . .

Awesome
now I get the notifications on my phone whenever there are new posts, Im going to get nothing done at work now

midlife crisis 17-03-11 10:33

marques 06-10-13 13:55

"now I get the notifications on my phone whenever there are new posts, Im going to get nothing done at work now"

Is this true? I always get so disappointed when i check the site evry two hours and their are no new posts, end up having to do some work or talk to the family.
