Allow me to resurrect an older thread.
Wow Tony! Great job, it is an inspiration. :notworthy:
I am going through the exact same story, but I've only just started.

My tank's in for rust and painting. I'm busy cleaning and scrubbing. The rusty spokes really are a bother.
Forks must be re-hardchromed.
Can these rims be anodised? I don't even know if they're aluminium.

Anyway, good job again Tony. I'll keep coming back to this thread for my inspiration!
Cheers - Boyd

Glad you get something from it. Many apologies for a few holes in photos. I had a clearout in my photobucket account.

The bike was eventually traded in for a cbr600, my 13th bike and you guessed it I had an accident that wrote it off and broke my right ankle, middle toe on my left foot and little finger on my left hand.

Once I get a few saved etc I may well get another XT. They really are a good bike.

Hello all, I have just come back to the forum to have a good catch-up and see what you guys are all up to now. I have still not got a bike since the CBR accident I had back on 2011. I've basically lost my bottle although the new MT07 has really got me interested again.

Found these photos so thought I would post them up.

XT660X - This got traded in for the CBR600 below

This is the result of 40mph and hitting a Deer. The Deer came from the woods to my left and ran into me giving me no chance to take avoiding action other than hit it, go over the bars and roll to a stop. Results below.

I can see why you're tempted - it's a lot of motorcycle for 5200. Makes the XT models look rather overpriced...
