Took the tank off today, mine would definitely also have rubbed through given time, so I put some foam rubber between the harness and the frame plus some insulation tape around the vulnerable wires.

Same problem, different fault
 
I has the same issue last year, or was it the year before! Only the problem for me was a totally dead bike.

For whatever reason Yamaha over tighten the loom when they install it in the bike. There is enough movement in the loom if you just back the cable-ties (zipties) off a little, or more often replace them.

Again there is a thread covering this somewhere in the distant past....


*Edit : Of course the header should read "same fault, different problem" Doh!
