Sat nav case question
Has anyone bought a waterproof case and clip for your car sat nav to fit to the bar by the screen on the tenere? I've seen some on ebay/amazon but they are geared more for bicycles and I don't really want it falling off at motorway speeds etc.
|
Givi do one, often seen on ebay. I've got one but use it for storing odds and sods that I need easy access too rather than my sat nav which is ram mounted to the bar above the clocks. PS I got my givi satnav bag cheaper at local stealers than the ones listed on ebay and that was without a discount...
so shop around. |
Funny that... i bought one tonight on my way home, its pretty good but the handle bar clamp is to suit normal size handle bar so to fit that little bar above the speedo i'm gunna have to chock it out with a block of wood (filed down).
I would like to test the water proofness of it with a bundled up cloth before sticking my new HTC HD2 in it.... but it does look pretty water proof (not a dunk in a river though as the cabble hole would let water in. Being behind the screen would be great for keeping it from being rain blastered for hrs of riding therefore i think it'll do the job well. I will be getting some of the plucking foam that ya use in the pelican cases to fill the case and locate the phone to where i want it. |
I'd be interested to know how you get on. It may be better to fill the gap with a rubber/pencil eraser as you'll get a bit of purchase and it may reduce the vibes a little.

Hein Gerricke do a bag for 15. Not sure if it's any use for you though.

I'll pop down to a store and have a look. It doesn't say what it's got, if anything, to allow for attaching to something.

i got this one from HG and uses velcro to attach above speedo on std bar on bike

Hello,
I was just about to make the same question. I have a HTC Desire and wish to use it's features on the Ten (without having to stop all the time to check for directions). I was checking the Touratech options, but it's simple too expensive IMO. The Givi one looks good, but do you know if it fits on the Ten front bar? Best Regards. |
I use an otterbox with ram mount ,totally waterproof and shockproof ,but then i use a pda with tomtom and memeory map installed for offroad

I have the givi universal one fitted on my "r" and it does the job just fine. It velcro's to the handle bars and once its on it's going nowhere. It has a seperate waterprooof cover and with this on lets no rain water in at all, I have ridden in some serious rain without problems. Bought off fleabay for under 40 to the door.

yes the Hein Ger has velcro on the back: for the money cant go wrong

It just seems the natural place to readout road information. http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gal...008%20%205.jpg I've been checking SW-Motech, and they have some specific bags for this purpose, but once again, I can't find a dedicated placeholder for the Ten front bar. |
I attatched mine to the crossbar first of all but found there was to much vibration on there to read it ,it is an otterbox with a ram mount ,i have now attached it to the handlebars and found it works much better

I have the Hein Gerricke one modded to a bit of ali plate. Easy to do if you have a file and and vice, link to thread
http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=13892 i used it for my trip around Scotland and i worked fine, but misted up in heavy rain on the way home (going to try to get hold of some of those little silica bags to see if that helps the condensation issue.) Hope that is useful?

IMO this type of case is more rainproof than waterproof. If you want a really waterproof (I mean to be able to submerge it for a small amount of time underwater - in case you cross a river and ... **** happens) you need something like this: https://www.buybits.com/product/sku_3554.aspx Cheers, |
