Waterpump
Has anyone else had an issues with the waterpump on the newer xtx, was riding home from work the other day and it just decided to dump all the coolant out the bottom, spoken to yamaha and they said its some sort of saftey feature thing and that i have to put my bike in the shop again for another week or so (and risk being seen on my mates sv650 he has lent me) to get it replaced.

Sounds like a seal or somethings gone, cant understand how this is a safety feature. Unless the pressure become too high and this is the weak area which fails first instead of the pump busting off?

My mate has a year old XTX and his did that on the motor way Yamaha put a new pump on on waranty BUT!! it took them 4 weeks to supply it to the dealer!!

Sounds like it is the water pumps mechanical seal leaking. We are starting to see a few of these now.

I replaced the o ring and gasket as i thought it was that that was leaking but a new pump should be on by wednesday according to yamaha, which is good as im not a fan of the sv :(

Yes, it certainly seems that waterpump issues is in fashion. Started with mine not so long ago, replaced all parts that kev advised, and Eureka, all good so far.
The mechanical seal was a bi^&h to take out, eventually i destroyd te whole seal in the process. Yamaha bond that they use in there is good for building Great Walls that stand for 1000's years. I did notice tge impellar shaft was also bit corroded near the impellar part, but fine sanding paper sorted that out, but i am sure next time it leaks i will have to replace the whole impellar and shaft. Good luck for everyone with water issues and give yourselve a good tap on the back when you fix it yourselve:eusa_clap::eusa_clap: |
