Hi everyone, Just picked up my new Tenere 09 model last week, so far so good, i have trawled the internet relentlessly looking for a definitive answer on Handguards that fit without : Hitting the windscreen on full lock, any cutting/chopping etc and leaving the bar weights insitu, the nearest ive seen apart from Yam OEM's have been the KTM type mentioned on here but im not sure if they are a good fit, if they are a good fit without any of the above problems could someone give me a part no/model etc so theres no dubiety, also looking for feedback on the SW-Motech crash bars as they look the sturdiest by far.
Last thing i need to organise the first service Oil & Filter change i cant get back to the dealer so i was thinking of doing it myself as it seems straightforward? thoughts on Oil & Filter type would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Sure I can give you a definitive answer. They don't exist!

The Yam OEM ones as you mention are the closest as although you remove the weights they do have some weight built in. They're costly however.

Personally I have used the 20 venom guards and currently have the KTM guards with the bar end weights. I have dropped the bike with both and my personal opinion is the KTM guards stand up well to the damage, mean I can keep the bar end weights and don't requiring bending back into shape after a hard drop!
For gettign the KTM guards I went into a KTM shop and they only had 2 types, black and orange so either should do :rotf[1]:

For oil I have heard that is best to stick with mineral oil for the first 6000miles as semi or full synthetic oil delay the bedding in process as they are almost too lubricating?

The first service? do you mean the 600 mile service ? If it is then I would strongly recommend you take it to the dealer as it's not just an oil and filter change, any developing problems should be picked up. It's not a condition of the warrenty, but I'll bet without that first (free) service in the book you'll have issues if you need to make a claim.

Thanks guys for your help, so any of the two KTM colours then! How easy are they to install in the bar weights never having put Handguards into bar weights before?

And yes thats a good point well made on the first service, i will get a couple of prices undo my pants and hold tight whilst the price is read back to me!

Thanks for your responses.
Cheers

if it's the 600 mile service, it's free at the supplying dealer - you pay for oil and filter
