Changing the front sprocket to one tooth smaller.
I have a new front sprocket with 14 spikes and I assume it is one tooth smaller than the original?
Do I need to cut the chain or will it go bolt-on? Have You fitted one? Is it better than the original ration for town and less than 120km/h speeds? Does it give better acceleration? |
1. MAy go straight on, depends on how far on the adjusters your current wheel position is, the rear will move back about 2cm.
2. Nope, not to an XT660 3.Better ? 4. Yes increased acceleration. |

Yes Is it better than the original ration for town and less than 120km/h speeds? Yes, but your speedo will now over read, you need to fit a Speedo Healer to correct the speedo reading. Does it give better acceleration? Yes much better. |
I already find 1st gear quite short Kev, does 1st not feel a little ridiculous now?
How much effect on top end ? |

15/45 15/46 15/47 16/45 14/45 I prefer 15/46 using a Stage 3 air box & Carbon cans. With the big bore & hot cam 15/47 was best. |
Will the smaller sprocket put the chain to eat the swings rubber?

Where can i get a 16 tooth front sprocket?
I'll try 16/46 for longer distances. At the moment im using 14/46 with 110 links. greetz xam |
You can buy a 16T front sprocket from any Yamaha bike shop in Australia, they cost AUD$40.00 + 16.50 postage.
