fueling mods to 2010 XT660X
Hi all,
I've read through as many posts as I can on modifications, and I'm trying to work out what possible improvements can be done to a 2010 XT660X? I've just gone past the first service, so bike is still being run in. However, I'm very keen to remove as much snatchyness as possible. I know it's a single, but I still feel the fuelling is pretty poor, and am wondering what I can do to improvce it. The best example I Can think of, is if I'm riding a constant 20 in second gear, it feels like it's misfiring, and splutters every now and then rather than keeping a nice constant speed. I plan to make progressive mods to it anyway, but just wondering what can be done in the mean time, short of fitting a power commander? In order of mods, I'm thinking of: Handguards Bobbins for paddock stand Cans Stage 1 filter Stage 2 filter (possibly although I worry about it as its a London commuter) Power Commander Thanks in advance for any help. I love the bike, just need to smooth it out a little then make it louder! |
Can you remove your left side frame cover & give me your Engine ECU part number, the 09 XTX ECU number is
5VK-8591A-11.
What is your 2010 ECU number? |
Hi Kev,
same number as you have there. Now I'm not sure if that means my bike is an 09 . Dealer priced it much cheaper than anyone else as it was the last one he had at old yamaha prices. It's the sports white colour which I think is the same in 09 and 10. Or, maybe they kept the same ECU? Not sure if that helps or not. |

I am working on the 09 ECU mapping as we speak, have a read here on all the ECU's that are fitted to the XT660 range. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=8546 |
Cool, looks like a PC is the right way to go. Shame the fuelling is so poor, but saying that, I chose this bike as it was fairly cheap with lots of room for tweaking.

The XTX & XTR fuelling is very poor for a new bike, you think they would have got it right by now after 5 ECU updates.
A Power Commander is the best option, as long as you get a custom made fuel map. As you can see from todays post I have have managed to get rid of most of the surge. I built this fuel map with the bike completely standard. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=8546 |
