Chain life
My 09 xt's chain has more or less had it. A load of the O rings have split out of the chain. Its only done 8k, is this normal. This is my first single and I know they're heavier on chains that multis. I've kept it very well lubed. I do like a wheelie and ride pretty hard.

Assuming you don't want to change your riding style, you could try lower gearing (if not done already) by using a larger rear or smaller front sprocket. This will generally give the engine/transmission an easier life because it can rev up easier - hence accelerate easier - hence wheelie easier!! Interestingly, the original chain on my 09 Tenere didn't last as long as the DID 520VM that replaced it. I only got 18k miles out of the OEM as opposed to 22k from the replacement!! :headbang: |
I don't wheelie but I do ride
very hard. I got 20000kms out of my OEM chain before she went snaparoo on me!

I had guessed that the use it had had worn it out but thought it would have lasted a bit longer. I'm hoping a non OE chain will last longer. I was toying with selling it anyway and once I've changed the chain I probably will.

Looking on bike trader the used values of xt's has gone up considerably. I should hopefully not loose to much when I sell as I've put a few extras on it as well.
