Fitting Zumo
Hi all.
Got a Zumo today & wondering if anyone can offer help/advise (with pictures :angel4:) on how/where to connect it... or atleast refer me to simular post?? Shot BB K. |

I just hooked it into the leads from the plug behind the dashboard cover. Black and brown wire going into a free plug. Only live when you turn on the key.

Ive got a tom tom on my r, its in a waterproof universal sat nav holder that velcro's to the handlebars. Ive also purchased a duel cigar socket which I've fitted to the handlebars and wired back to the battery with its own inline fuse.
I simply plug the tomtom straight into the cigar socket, its also handy for phone charger and laptop power supply too. It even works my 12volt kettle (but i have to leave the engine running). As has been suggested your best bet is to wire in a relay which is then connected to a small fuse box. I have done this on my Tenere and use the rear light circuit to activate the realy this then powers a fuse box with four outlets for heated jacket, heated grips and a cigarette lighter outlet which I use for the GPS. This leaves me with a spare outlet which I can use for my compressor when necessary.
I regularly use the heated jacket, grips and GPS with no charging problems whatsoever and for what it's worth I have HID's in both dipped and main beams. Hope this helps. Zou on this forum had a really good picture of this very same mod but for the life of me I cannot find it, perhaps he may come along and post it in this thread. |
i ran my negative lead to the battery and i piggybacked the positive lead off a fuse that only had power when the bike was turned on. I think it was the turn signal fuse, but not entirely sure. The GPS only pulls about 300mA so it wont effect the circuit at all. I used the turn signal fuse because its non-essential to me getting back home if something were to go wrong.

Talking about 12V sockets and fuses...i have direct connection between my 12V socket and battery, one lead going to + and other to - on battery. Have to mod this and put inline fuse somewhere. Where is best place to put this inline fuse and what amp fuse is advisable. Must it go on wire between + from battery to socket or between socket and - terminal.
Discovered short in socket week or so ago and it certainly affected my battery, had to replace it with new one, short must have pulled some sort of current and ate up all the oomf. GB |
