A Cheap PRE-FILTER mod for your Tenere

Ok! Gents, i've had a crack at my pre-filter skin mod.
Without going through the expensive process of getting something routed and making a mold so i could re-produce something that i might only sell a hand full of... i decided to take the cheap and easy route to see if the idea will work. My idea of this is to then buy a few cheap pool filter skins to stretch over the bell mouth to keep the main filter relativley clean for longer in dusty conditions.

First - Off to bunnings to buy a simple PVC rain gutter take-off (male connection) which means it's O.D is excactly 90mm. This is a perfect fit into the tenere filter with the snorkel removed and only $3.50

I then cut off the 40mm of straight spigot before it fans out. The piece on the right is the bit you need so piff the piece on the left into the bin as you wont need it.

Just a little inspection check

Then get hold of an old ice cream container and some hobby plaster and 3-little cubes of wood or anything disposable, something the size of 3-dice so to speak.
Place the three cubes in the ice cream tub with the PVC spigot sitting on top of them at 3 tri-angular points (to raise the spigot of the bottom of the ice cream tub)

Pour in enough plaster to fill up to halfway up the spigot (approx. 20mm) and let set.

Now the whole idea of this is to keep the bottom of the spigot in it's orriginal shape and size for when you place this in the oven.
Next you'll need something to spread the pvc spigot, the first idea i had was the kitchen light shade but them thought better of it (breakable in your hands) i then got hold of the missus's tupperwear when she wasn't looking :077:

While she still isn't looking put the oven onto about 250 deg C let it warm up and then place the plaster and PVC spigot into the oven for about 10-15 mins (keep an eye on this) when its ready you'l be able to push the sides of the PVC spigot in with a touch of your finger.
Quickly get it out, shove on the bench and grab the tupperware bowl and push down to you get the desired flaring-out and hold there while it cools (30 seconds).... presto! there you have it

If you stuff it up or your not happy with it, shove it back in the oven for about 5 mins, it'll go back to it's original shape then try again. From the moment you get it out of the oven you don't have long before it starts to harden so don't be shy about spreading the flair.

After about 5mins it should be safe to break the plaster off.

Now i'm going to glue mine in place as a test has shown that just shoving it in the filter hole just vibrates loose. i'll place a pic of it up when i do that.

nice one regie, had used filter skins on the race bikes in the past and they certainly help, in one day on the isde poland i changed 7 filters in one day![no skins as team gasgas did not trust them]very sandy/dusty. your fellow country man matt fish was on my minute, it was so bad and he kept filling me in :evil6:

pity we dont get the foam filter on the tenere here, though it would even save the paper element in dusty conditions.though looking out the window it's a large bore head high snorkle required!:001:
