Carbon cans falling apart!!!
 

Has anyone else had the problem of the end comming away from the actually exhaust???

got in from a 200mile round trip today and when i checked my exhaust, the rivits that hold the dome end on had somehow come away and the end was hanging off, and the cotton wool was coming out.

i will admit i may of been going a tad over 70mph but surley this shouldn't of caused this to happen?

im a little bit pi%$ed off to be honest as they weren''t cheap to buy and haven't even been on a year

i will take a couple of photos and post em when i get a chance, just putting the feelers out to see if anyone has had this!

When did you buy these and have you bought them from the new owner of Carbon Can Co or the previous one Mr. Simon Cope of Fleetwood? There is a big difference because the new owner which we soon dropped from our sponsored third party afilliates doesn't have a ****ing clue.

Wont have anything to do with your speed. I always ride hard & fast ('cept when I've got the Mrs pillion) & I've had mine on for over three years/35000kms. Went on a 4.5 hour ride on Sunday & my average speed was 80mph :D

The only problem I've had with them is the connecting link on the underside of the bike. The diameter of the CCC pipe is a bit too wide for the header pipe, & the clamp doesn't do the job well either.

I think it's only a bad work in assembling rivits. Or defective rivits. May happens. Would be easy to change the rivits and bring efficiency in all.

Are they CCC silencers, or just carbon fibre silencers?
Singles and twins are hard on carbon fibre silencers, and are known for splitting the silencer bodies, and also blowing the ends out. If you wanted to effect a repair, then I would recommend redrilling the end cap, fitting a new rivet strap and fresh rivets.
If the carbon fibre tube is thin, then I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.

Ok let me tell you guys a story...

In 2004, I bought a set of standard Carbon Can Co. stainless steel exhaust from CCC (with Simon Cope at the helm)...

I run those cans for 2 years, and I was using my bike every day, to work and back and every weekend running approx 12000 miles on these, then at the beginning of 2006, Simon gave me a free complimentary set of carbon sleeved stubbies so I packed my stainless steel cans and sent them to Kev in Australia when he still had his blue XT, (see pic below) he had some special connecting pipes for them and fitted them to not one but 3 bikes the blue 04 one, and 2 orange an 06 and an 08 and he is still running them at present date, SIX YEAR LATER, and neither me nor Kev have experienced any problems with rivets and the manufacturing of them.

A couple of years ago, Kev remove all rivets, then he completely gutted out all the old padding out of the cans and replaced the padding with new clean one and re-riveted the cans, and still they are going strong.

And this my friends goes to show how good the quality of the original CCC exhausts were.

Since Simon Cope was in charge of CCC we have NEVER had any returns, any complaints and not even a single can failing in construction. EVER.

I wouldn't expect stainless steel or alloy silencers to split and lose rivets whoever made them. That's why I'm interested if it's a CCC silencer or a carbon fibre silencer.

There could be many reasons why the end plate came off, any Photo's of the rivet holes or remaining rivets. Causes, weak rivets, holes to big, rivets not tight enough , to much free play between the end cap & outer can

When I serviced my CCC exhausts I used stainless steel rivets, I have not had any problems since November 2008 with anything coming loose.

Right i actually got them the day after simon sold the company as far as im aware, they are stainless steel dome ends, if i remember the guy said it was the first set he had made like it, i cant put any pics up till later as im at work,

all in all i will prob just end up drilling some new holes and re riviting it, its just a pain in the A%$ as i have had to take the train to work and don't get in till 8.30pm most nights
