Bad Dealer

Bought my 2008 XT660R from a large Motorcycle dealer in Wellington Telford, found the following faults:

Wrong size tyres
No hand book- At time of purchase
Told it had been serviced (book was stamped) 4k, then told it was only a oil change ??
Found plug worn and dirty
Found air filter even more dirty, very worring on such a low use bike

Highlighted all the above to the dealer !!!!

Responce was, Not interested, we've had your money now ****** off type attitude ????

Not good

Not Happy

Thinking of writing to Yamaha, or just voting with my feet again ?:mod_smilie_icon_pol

The air filter is changed every 2 years IIRC
How many miles has it done ?

Hi,
I would report this immediatly to Yamaha.

As its a pre owned bike it would be sold with whatever tyres/handbooks it came to them with so I dont think theres an issue there.
You dont say whether they have serviced it or the previos owner serviced it/had it serviced. If they have been told its recently been serviced and have told you that then again I would say no issue.
However if they have claimed to have serviced it when obviously they havent then you do have a claim. Its all in the wording.

4K, I have now fitted a new K&N and an upgraded plug, but have not noticed any change in performance.

I agree but the bike handled very badly with oversize tyres on, i changed them to std Yamaha sizes and its great to ride and feels safe now, as for service the told me the had done a PDI safe check and a service, plus there stamp is in the book at 4k miles, but then told me they had only changed the oil, i said i dont think much of thr pdi check as no one noticed the very bad handling and wrong tyres? :cry[1]:

Its been posted on here several times about wrong tyre sizes affecting handling so I agree with what youre saying there, stock size is that for a reason.
I'm not aware of dealers riding a bike as part of a pdi check, (mine had 000000 miles on it when I collected it) I think its purely a visual check that everything is where it should be and not loose or falling off.
I'm not sure what should be cleaned/ replaced at 4000mile service, have a search on here, perhaps it should only have the oil changed??
I think after its running in oil change service at 600miles its only due full service at 6000miles. (anyone confirm please?)
Does seem a little misleading though to say its been serviced, they should have stated that the oil had been changed.

Yes i agree, i dont think the air filter is due at 4k but it takes five mins to check and they would have seen its bad state, but they said ride it til it starts playing up or down on power, which is bad advice, by then dirt would have been sucked into the carb and engine.

I don't understand, why you guys are discussing the service issue. It is totaly unimportant when a part is due to service.
If the dealer response is true, now that is an issue. All other points concerning the tyres, the air filter and so on, can be easily serviced by the dealer and no one would even post this in the forum.
It's all about the dealer response.

Hi, dont really understand your somewhat sharpe reply!! Of course its valid to disscuss when a part is due for check, service or replacement ! This was the dealers defence, saying that according to Yamaha's schedule non of the items i refer too were due, hence left in an awfull state. I contacted another dealer out of the area and they were so upset to hear how the bike was handed over and how the dealer responded to me, they have offered to carry out a full 32 point check over, full service and supply me an air filter F.O.C (40) to uphold the Yamaha network and brand, above all keep the customer Happy. Now thats what i call a good dealer and great care and fore thought.

Name of dealer network is CMC Motorcycles LTD: ACE:idea1:

I,m pleased you've found someone to sort your problems for you Nigel, no prizes for guessing where you'll be taking the bike in future? Hope you enjoy your purchase :happy8: and your new dealer.

selling with the wrong sized tyres is dangerous and could invalidate your insurance. It is a very serious matter.

Good Result I wasn't happy with my dealers attitude so I will take my business elsewhere. The only way people can find these things it is from word of mouth and forums such as this.

And a word with Yamaha UK although they never seem that bothered in the past:seasaw:

chester0_1972 17-03-10 17:58

I bought mine from a Yamaha dealer and it had a 170 on the back and an illegally small number plate. The first service after the 600 mile one is 6k and thats basically an oil change not even a filter change. They sound like most dealers to me.

Not allowed to sell you machine that won't pass its MOT as a roadworthy machine. They should replace the plate foc....AND if you are paying for a service and that includes a filter change then, they should change the filter (normally with Yams though the filter is every other oil change)

chester0_1972 17-03-10 19:05

Most dealers (and thats main as well) sell bikes with under size plates.
