Evening in garage with my Tenere

Hello,

I just came back from garage, where I tried to install a few items. I had success with both SW-Motech central stand and crashbar (you can find those and many others here: http://tinyurl.com/ylyldp7).
But I had no luck with Yamaha genuine side cases set this black mounting part:

Can anybody tell me how to reach the screw with the nut in the back section of this mounting? I have tried many ways, I have even removed the exhaust covers I cant put the nut in the right position to let the screw get in :(

Its quite strange, that installing SW-Motech was so easy and genuine parts make such a problem
Thanks, take care,
rfk

It was a long time ago, but as I remember, you need to take the plastic grab rails off (4 x 12mm nuts under grey plastic covers) and then the rear grey plactic cover (10mm nuts found upside down under the rack above the tail lights) and then the black metal one beneath it (this has some hex screws holding it in place I think). One this is off you can get a ring spanner (14mm I think) on the relevant nuts.
It sounds more complicated than it realy is.

Crusty drilled some holes in the plate over the end of the screws and elongated it to get the nut on without totally removing the exhaust system!"

Hi.
I'm facing the same problem. Look here: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=13011
My bike is still on warranty, so I guess I won't be experimenting with removing mechanical parts if this is the only way to install those nuts. I'll probably get my Yamaha dealer to do it and post the answer here.

i fitted the rack with no problems, it is just a case of taking the bike to bits to fit it!

You need to take off the numberplate fender and the top plastic trim between the rear of the seat and the back of the bike...which means taking off the grab rails. Once you have done thos you can access all the bits you need to get at.

The tail light assembly - As Avo said - forgot that bit. Comes off when you undo the bolts/scres for the rear metal plate.

Ther is NO need to take the exhaust off. Sorry SteveD

Doing mine I dropped a nut so had to take the exhaust off in the end, proved no problem and was good to see how it all went together

:luuurve:

just remember to glue the rubber bits on my first ones flew off!

Is it necessary to unplug any wire plugs or cut any clamps, so as to remove the rear fender?

As I remember there are 1, possibly 2 plugs but they are simple squeeze and pull apart ones.

3 plugs, no cutting. Once the tail is off fitting the rack is easy.
