Tenere Running In
Hello All,
I am collecting my new XT660Z Tenere tomorrow and plan on doing the "running in" with a 1000km roundtrip this weekend. The ride is entirely tarred highway in both directions so it will be a nice easy ride for the bike. The manual simply talks about not exceeding 4500RPM however would like to enquire about any other tips on optimal riding style to ensure maximum long term benefits for the bike? Thank you in advance.. Rui |
Before you read too much I need to explain that I know nothing -
However, on the TDM forum there was a strong recommendatin not to run in the traditional method but to use the same method they do for race bikes etc... Something about revving really hard, but not under too much load... Does anyone know anything more?? I also heard this from a professional tuning house (the mechanics there are ex-tem pro mechanics - top geezers) What does Kev have to say on the topic? |
there's already a few thread about that around here...let me dig them
I would also recommend not posting the same topic in different sections, it just add to the confusion.... edit: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=9683 http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=9184 it basically says: avoid riding it at too high rev for a long period of time. I would also suggest: avoid motorways for the break-in/run-in... it's boring.... and I'm convinced that the engine would benefit more from a varied break-in run, by using several gear/chanmging revs, more than a long stretch of motorway... |
Thank you for your replies and zOU, thank you for the links, the advice is good.

In any case most of my breaking in was on the motorway at about 60mph and my bike seems to be doing fine 26k miles later with pretty much non-existant oil usage. |
