hi i take it that you are refering to the fr brake? there may be corrosion at the lever pivot, lossen the pivot bolt out, clean up with fine sand paper and put a little oil or grease and refit has that sorted it?

ta for that. working most of the weekend but will try that and see if it sorts it.

+1 take the lever out, watch out for the spring for the brake light, clean it up and regrease. Also you might want to take off the brake calipers and see what your pads are like, maybe clean up the pistons on the calipers and push them in and out a few times and move the pads around on thier sliders, sometimes dirt gets in and means they jump instead of sliding.

There is another worrying possibilty you must check, often with braided brake lines, the pressure is applied to the pads no matter what the wear level is on these: so when your brake pads have completely worn their actual compund i.e. they are on their last leg, you will get to the end of the metal part and a harsh breaking action takes place. That is because of metal to metal friction. Inspect the pads ASAP before you couls score and knacker the disc for good = - you're in the red!

off monday so will do all those checks. have to admit feels more than a stiff lever more like pressure on it. will get back to you all after my inspection.
