Where to fit a 12V socket?

I'm currently in the middle of prepping my XT for the big trip this spring (to Oz & maybe beyond....) and have been trying to work out where best to put a 12V socket so we can charge the laptop, cameras etc. My KTM made it easy as it had a nice space on the dash board but of course the XT doesn't really have a dash board in the first place!

Any suggestions or photos of your set-up would be much appreciated..

If you have a look at the General help section, i had the same problem as you and asked the question, there are a few answers and pics there.
I have just put mine under the seat..

Just an idea that i used on a different bike...

I ran a power cord to just under my tank. I used the same type of connector that Battery Tenders use. I installed a power outlet in my tank bag.

It was beautiful because i could split the plug in my bag and charge things that i wanted to keep dry in my tank bag. I also had a cord from my XM radio running into the bag and most of the wire was hidden. when i didnt want or need power i could pull off my tank bag and all that was left was one plug that i could tuck under the tank. If the bike was gonna sit for a while there was no need to run a battery tender wire because i could just tap right into my power connector and charge the battery.

Here is the kit i used.

i just bought the tank bag kit from them and bought all the extra wires and connectors from a local electronics shop.

Hope that helps give you a different perspective at least.
