Morocco '09

I have recently completed a 3 week solo trip to Morocco on the Tenere. The route was a pretty standard one. Ferry crossing to Spain, then two weeks spent in Morocco making a fairly large circle and trying to get a small taste of everything. Covered 3000 miles in total, the bike performed faultlessly and proved to be ideal for this kind of trip. Some of the pics from the trip below:

Blasting through Spain. The driving position was more "in" rather than "on" the bike.

Not every cop is a *******, just 99.9% of them.

At last ... the Tenere is properly baptized in the desert at Merzouga.

Overall it was a great experience which I would like to repeat again. Morocco is a great place, worth visiting, with very diverse natural beauties and very kind and helpful people (once you get used to the way things work there). I totally recommend it to everyone.

Superb photos mate, we're off to Morocco next September. No specific plans yet but if you have a few 'must-see/do's' I'd appreciate it,
cheers

I agree those are some fantastic pictures. The Tenere looks right at home there. Glad to hear it performed well.

Lovely photos. Can't wait to get back.

There's some basic info on Morocco in the knowledgebase in my signature.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Lairyboy:
there are so many beautiful and diverse places one can visit that a 'must see/do' list would really do unjustice to the place. Everyone can pick and mix and make the trip as unique as they like. However my personal highlights would be the following:
-Visiting the beautiful village of Chefchaouen in the Rif mountains. This place offers an easy and relaxed introduction into the Moroccan culture.
-Crossing the Middle Atlas.
-Visiting the town of Midelt. Even though the town itself is nothing spectacular, there are a few interesting "piste" routes that start off from there. They have nice carpets as well ;-)
-Visiting the village of Merzouga in the South and exploring the desert. Sooo much fun. The sand dunes are spectacular.
-The two gorges on the road to Ouarzazate (gorge of Todra and gorge of Dades) are beautiful. Lots of turns in the mountainous road for the fans of that sport....
-Crossing the high Atlas either at Tizi n Tichka or Tizi n Test. I only did one of them... totally worth it. The mountains in that area are pretty impressive.
-I only went to one big town, Marrakesch and I was not overly impressed. Not too many things to see really and the place can be overwhelming. It is however worth visiting at least one big city to see what it's like. If I did it again I would go either to Fez or Casablanca.
Hope this helps....

Pinglow:
The existence of this 0.1% is rumoured. I have not yet confirmed it myself ;-)

Tim Cullis:
I was there at your talk on Morocco in the last Horizons meeting. My thanks for the information you have offered. Respect....
