How are the SWEDISH army specials going?

Grayspeed 11-02-10 23:18

Not wonderful on the road as you might imagine. Ok but don't push it. Not as much block movement as you would expect, but there again there isn't much grip on tarmac in this cold. Off road in mud and gloop, the're about the best, I think.

Is there any more progress / feedback with these army specials fitted to the Ten? Look very interesting. Trying to pick an off road tyre with some road ability. In particular for the ryedale rally but will be used for gren laining in the UK with a posibillity of some green laning in northern France.

If not these would you have any other recomendations? Obviously thinking of the TKC but am very interested in the alternatives and these army specials look just the job.

All the best

Heya guys, as I'm poor i stuck my army special on the rear when i got back from my summer trip (the michelin was so shagged). It has been perfectly fine. Got me all through the winter (including the ice and snow) done motorway miles on it aswell. Get them on the green lanes and they are awesome.
Would definitely recommend them

Just ordered a pair and will pick them up early next week.

I have done just over a 1000 miles on mine and the tread has gone down to 10mm from the 13mm from new, which I think is very good if you know the way I ride.

So I reckon a average rider would get 3-4k out of them which is very impressive for knobby tyre, I will be happy at 3000 miles

That does seem good I have put just over 2K on my cheap Dunlop and its getting close to useless.

The original front tourance still has life left in it at 8K

oday went down to Bude and picked up a couple of Swedish Army specials for my Ten. Gwyn from Trellisport even fitted the rear to the loose wheel for me. Excellent service and a really nice guy who loves bikes. He helps out at the BMW experience in Wales with Si Pavey. He removed the old and fitted the new tyre in under half an hour and you can see he is a pro the way he handles the tyre and did the levering. It gave me the confidence to fit the front army special when I need to in a few weeks. Top bloke.
