RPM display in the dash
 

I got my XTR a couple of weeks ago. It is a 2009 build.
Read Kev's method for displaying engine rpm on the dash. Here is my problem:
After getting the display to flash DIAG, I then press "select".
The display then changes to flashing "CO".
After this I can not get to "CO1" with the select button. It only swaps between DIAG & CO.
Am I doing something wrong?

Once you get to the CO screen, press select & reset together wait & CO1 will show on the dash then let select & reset go, start the bike by pushing the starter button.

you mean on the standard digital speedo we can see the revs also i do not recall seeing thi sin the manual??

If this is done, is the speed still visible

Yes it is, just does not show the trip meter.

You sure can get a rev counter in the dash, it is a hidden feature.

OK one descriptive mistake on my part, "DIAG" and "CO" do not flash.
I first turn the bike ignition switch to ON. (I have tried it with both kill sw on & off)
Now I have tried all combinations of "SELTECT" & "RESET" buttons. Just get the display to swap between "DIAG" and "CO".
Am I still missing something? Or maybe on the 09 model access to this menu has been restricted.

It should work on a 09 XT try this.

Switch off Engine Run switch, switch OFF Key switch.

1/ Press both SELECT & RESET buttons and then switch ON Key switch, keep SELECT & RESET buttons pressed for at least 8 seconds. Display then changes to "DIAG". Release SELECT & RESET buttons.

2/ Press the SELECT button once until CO displays, press SELECT & RESET buttons again, CO1 should display.

3/ Once selected CO1, switch on the kill switch & crank the motor. Once started the rev counter should be in the right side of the LCD screen.

It works on my 2006 bike

But when I switch off and on the screen goes back to normal...

Is there a way to keep the rev counter showing ??

I have just tried this but did not get it to work on my 06, do you turn the key on the OFF posotion , surely the computer will be off then and wont respond, do you press the reset abd select button at the SAME time and turn the key ON while press and hold for a further 8 seconds, or do you press then both and relaease turn the key on the press agin?

I just chekce dthe manual it does explain this in the manual, seem this feature is supposed to be tempary as it is used to set idling and the CO2 therefore it cancel out every time you turn your bike off/

I tried it, 09 x, it works but only on the diagnostic screen not the normal screen, it cancels on switching off, then reverts back to normal screen.

All the above statements are correct.

Ok here is what was missing:

in step 2, after the CO display, you need to press & hold SELECT & RESET for 2 seconds to get to CO1 I was doing it only momentarily.
Once done the display only shows RPM. I was :089:as I was hoping to get a feel for road speed against engine rpm.
Also noted that the odometer & trip meters stop registering while you ride the bike in test mode
